DVC and Disney Magical Express

We are staying at Saratoga Springs using my wife's Aunts DVC points. We have another couple who is flying in and staying with us and wanted to use DME. For some reason to setup DME for Saratoga Springs they need my wifes aunts DVC Member number. We have the reservation number but they wont accept that. Does that seem correct? They seem to be making this a big hassle and are very unfriendly to our friends who are flying in. Anyone have any luck using DME and someone elses DVC?

Honestly, your situation sounds kinda unique. DME isn't THAT old of a system that all of the bugs could be worked out, especially when it's as uncommon a request as yours.

Sure, it makes sense to me that having the reservation number should be as good as having the DVC member number, but it's their system, not mine If that's what they want, I figure, what the hell, your friends are going to get free transportation to and from the airport, free baggage handling, and they're staying with you using someone else's points. If, in exchange, they have to give WDW the information they claim they must have, it's a no-brainer. The only potential problem is if your aunt doesn't want anyone to have her DVC membership number, in which case, ask her to call on your friend's behalf. Give her the friends' pertinent info, and make sure you bring her back something extra-specially nice to say Thanks.

I just would figure this would happen more often with DVC members 'selling' their points to people. I guess the DVC members have to make all the arrangements... my wife's aunt is letting us do this for free so i was trying to do as much as possible without having to put her out. Is the DME call center run by Mears Transportation as well cause the 3 different people i talked to were rather rude and unDisney like

That I couldn't tell you, I've been driving in to Orlando myself the past few times I've gone. From what I understand, Mears helped Disney set-up the DME, but I don't know if the people running it officially are Mears employees or Disney CMs. And again, DME is only a little over a year old, so I'd guess that, while some DVC members MUST HAVE rented their points to people who have had to deal with this situation by now, it's still pretty rare.

It sounds to me like your friends are arriving independently of your arrival. Just playing Devil's Advocate here, but maybe they're asking for the DVC member as a way to also confirm that only the people who are supposed to be using DME are. Had you also been on the same flight as your friends, it wouldn't be so much of an issue. But because you're not all arriving together, they want to make doubly sure that you're either not letting someone else "use" your privilege of DME, or that once you arrive at Disney, you won't be trying to cram more people into the room than permitted. Flimsy what-if scenario, I know, but I suppose anything is possible

Yeah, thats what i figured.. the DME people called me after my friends did make the DME on the one night were staying at All Star Music to confirm. Just seemed to be annoying especially when they setup the DME fine with All Stars reservation (their flight home) but not Saratoga Springs (their arrival). Course were only like a 3.5 hour drive so i'd never use DME but Atlanta to Orlando is with the $59 one way flight with DME

The simple thing to do is to give the flight information (both inbound and outbound) to your aunt and have her contact DVC to get the Magical Express Tickets. They will send her the luggage tags and it is all over.

Not worth making an issue out of it.

I'm sure your aunt will understand and take care of this for you.

Have a merry Christmas and enjoy the 'world' when you get there. This is not worth beginning your vacation upset. They have their procedures and are expected to follow them. :xmas:

Eh, we gave up when we got her DVC member number and then DME wanted the last 4 of her SSN. Its too late anyways but next time i'd just have her do it. I was trying to avoid that since she is letting us use 100 points!
