DVC AKL points now on sale

I received a mailing from DVC yesterday that the points are on sale and will have a discounted price through Feb 28. They are currently going for $101.00 which is much cheaper than I expected, but that is with an $8.00 discount per point this month only.

If anyone checks into this any further I would be interested in what the maintainence cost are per point. I would expect them to be fairly high with the animals.

I'm an existing DVC member (Beach Club) and bought AKV points yesterday

1. $101 is the undiscounted price. If you buy more than 100 points, you get an $8 discount and the price is $93 per point.

2. I was quoted an estimated annual maintenance fee of $4.69 per point. As a comparison, I think the BCV fee is around 4.25-4.35 per point.

I'm thinking about purchasing a DVC membership in AKL, but I haven't done that much research into the actual costs besides purchasing the points and then your annual dues is there anything else that I should be considering? Also at the time of purchase if I bought the minimum 150 pts. at $93 that is $13,950 is there anything else that I would add on to this to get what I would actually be paying for the initial membership?

1. The expiration date of the AKV points is 2057 (Beach Club is 2042 I believe).

2. I believe AKV pointholders can make AKV reservations starting May 1 for travel after September 1. DVC members who are Non-AKV pointholders can start making reservations a month after that I think.

Actually the BCV are 4.67 a point for the year 2007, that's what I have on my statement.

50 points per year x $95 = $4750 gives you 2500 points total over 50 years.
$4750/2500 = $1.90 point cost. Add in maintainance of $4.67 per point gives you $6.57. I like to use $7.00 for my calculations.

You can also rent points for as low as $10 per point.

You can get a room at AKL for as little as 8 points per night or $56 a night. Compare to $150-$200.

Use resale to get a contract for as little as 50 points. New through Disney requires 150 point minimum.
