I just want to slap my husband sometimes..lol (who doesn't?)..he calls me up on Monday and tells me.."guess what? Work is gonna save us a ton of money...I have to be in a conference in Orlando from September 18th to the 20th..so they will pay for my flight home (we are at WDW 11th - 17th)..uhm...he's just gonna stay there and let me fly home and then work will pay for the extra night hotel room and the flight home..my first thought was....will they pay for the flight there since they would have to anyway ?:drevil:..No..then it hit me:hammer:..that means I will be traveling home by myself, WITH TWO KIDS AND MY DAD !!! That means, two kids, a stroller, a diaper bag, carry ons, the luggage, and all the extras...my son will be 19 months old and I wasn't paying for a seat for him so I will have no one to trade off with on the flight..my dad will be flying with me, but since he works for Continental (well United now) he flys for free, stand-by, so there is no guarantee that he will be sitting near me..wait wait wait..did I mention that my dad is over 65 and has to use a cane to walk....he has MS, COPD and a few other things, so he's got a hard enough time carrying his own luggage, let alone helping me with all my stuff !!!..OMG..it makes NO sense for my husband to fly home and turn around and fly right back, but ..it saves us about $150..which is still $150, but OMG !!! I am not looking forward to that ride..oh oh oh..wait, there's more :hammer:..since Dad works for Continental we use the employee parking lot to save us about $50 (or more) in parking...which means I have to maneuver all THAT onto a bus full of employees waiting to get home...really :veryconfu:veryconfu:veryconfu:veryconfu

I feel your pain; I posted a trip report recently where I told how I flew to Orlando for business and brought my son who stayed with his Uncle and toured Disney World and Orlando during the day then we would all meet up and we do more touring together in the evenings.

My son and I flew home to Boston on Thursday; my wife told me she had arranged a “get away weekend” for the two of us as my son was going to his grandmother's summer home for a week, it was a surprise so pack a bag and we leave tomorrow. My son departed for a week on Cape Cod with his Grandmother and his Aunts on Friday. That’s when my wife informed me that we were going to Disney World for the weekend and we were leaving in about ½ hour. So basically I flew 3 hours North on Thursday and then turned right around and flew 3 hours south on Friday and then flew back North again on Monday. I swear by Monday it was like the old TV show “Cheers” I got on the plane in Orlando and the flight crew yelled “Zurg!”

I don't mean to laugh but it sounds like my life. My husband always get stuck on "thought #1" and doesn't ever seem to think things through the rest of the 15 steps I have to deal with. GOOD LUCK!!!

As others have said, good luck. I'd push for staying the extra couple days with him :).

That crossed my mind too and if my daughter wasn't being pulled out of school for the first week then of course I would, but no...even though it's just kindergarten I don't want her out for 2 weeks...and the hotel he's staying at is no where near WDW..it's on the other side of Orlando....so not much to do there...

That is crazy!!! A sense of humor definitely comes in handy!

My Hubby tends to get these great ideas too! "Thought #1" as you said sounds so great to him that any changes it may make the original plans tend to get forgotten (often causing complete chaos). The situation will be extremely difficult, but for your husband's sake just try to remember, he did mean well in attempting to save some moolah ???

I hope this helps......When you get to the airport, pay the guys with the trollies to check your bags curbside. Then, let them know that your Dad has trouble walking and needs that golf-cart thing so you can get a ride to the gate with your kids, Dad & carry-ons :king:. You don't have to tell anyone that he works for the airline.
By the way, when you slap your husband, make sure it's good and hard! :hammer: :ROFLOL:
Oh, and when you get home, get a car service to pick you up at the airport. They will help with bags, etc so you can get the kids home. Tell hubby he's got to pick up the car at the airport when he gets back as penance!

An Alternative ?

May I suggest if your budget allows, go *with* your husband for the first leg of the trip. The room will be paid for, arranging flights may be a bit of a stretch, but at the least you should be able to get him to assist with getting into the airport. Even if you have a flight +- an hour, on the other end the same situation can work out.

Plus, you'd have access to the rental car, or could shuttle to whatever stops you might want to take.

With the added time, you could either get the max 10 day ticket (it's only a few more dollars a day PP once you get beyond 4 days) or explore some of the Florida you ordinary would not see.... Perhaps our friends at Kingdomconsultants could assist with arrangements ????

Ok didn't read all the posts... If you're ever going to have a kid out of school. Kindergarden is the time to do it. Even on the other side of Orlando, you can still get to-from things to do. (Plus with the saved $150.00 you could also get a rental car for the week)

Oh I am liking the car idea !!!! I am really liking the car idea...Dad can jump the company bus to the parking lot and drive the car to my house...wait that won't work...car seats..my daughter is 5 and needs a booster and my son is 19 months and will need a 5 point harness seat....hmmmmmm....still thinking....oh oh oh....dad jumps company bus, picks up my truck and then comes and gets us at baggage claim...it should take about 30 minutes and i can entertain them for that long....hmmmmm

Oh and I am gonna SLAP him HARD..don't worry...lol....I think I have it figured out...he is gonna ride with us to the airport from OKW since it's cheaper to get a car from the airport to his new hotel and he can help load the kiddos and the bags and all that good stuff...once we are on our way he jumps a cab to the new hotel..then see below for our home airport..that just might work

This thread is sexist :lookaroun

No it's honest..I always tell hubby the reasons I married him are:
he can reach things on the top shelf
and
carry the heavy things...
there are few others like..
intimidate people
money is safe in his pocket since most people won't mess with him..lol

He's 6'5, wears a short hair cut and very dark sunglasses..always walks around with a scowl on his face and looks ed off at the world most of the time..kinda intimidating to most people..since we live in Texas and both have CHL's I always call him my personal Guido..LOL

So it's not sexiest..it's FACT-ist...roflmao:sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:
