I will be taking a trip to France in a few weeks and I'm hoping to pick up Song of the South and Ducktales the Movie on DVD. My question is how easy is Ducktales the Movie to find over there?

Also, I am very technology challenge. Someone had mentioned to me about region 1 and region 2 DVDs. What is the concern over this?

Europe uses the PAL system for their TV's. The USA uses NTSC.
They are not compatible.

Be sure that if you buy a DVD in Europe that it will play on an NTSC system back in the US.

Good luck.

it's more the region code (if you don't have a codefree player) and you TV set (if it can play PAL .. most modern set are cross compatible)

Look for the "Region" on the back of the DVD. The US and Canada use Region 1. The symbol looks like a wire globe with a number super imposed. The DVD players are PAL not the DVD's themselves. The DVD players in the US anre NTSC. The DVD player must be able to decode the correct region. The region does not have anything to do with the video output (NTSC vs PAL), but is used as a means of preventing the release of one video in a certain region over another. You can purchase region free DVD player. (More expensive) but they will play all region DVD's.

There are also Hacks on the internet that will allow you to set the region of the DVD player. Some models will allow you to press a sequence of buttons to change the region. This allowed the manufacturer to produce one DVD player, and chnage the settings per country they are sold into. Bew are that doing this incorrectly can mess up the DVD player. There are forums to search for this. I think one of them was DVD hacks .com or something like that.

Good luck!

Well most of the cheap players have a "remote control hack" to unlock them, but my utterly expensive panasonic player won't feed on anything else than region 2. :animwink:

Song of the South has not been officially released anywhere on DVD. If you do happen to find a copy it is a guaranteed bootleg (even the ones claiming to be from Disneyland Paris are fakes).

Ducktales the Movie, however, is readily available for purchase from the Disney Movie Club. You can even chose it as an enrollment selection for only $1.99. www.disneymovieclub.com
