DTD Transportation Issues

Has anyone else experienced really bad transportation from DTD to any of the resorts? I'm trying to figure out if it was the time of day, the resorts we were staying in, or what. Because we had 2 REALLY awful experiences leaving DTD.

First, we were staying at POR. Everyone congregated at the bus stop. We waited almost 40 minutes for a bus. We saw so many other resort buses but never saw one for ours. This time, I would guess the time was about 8:30 or so.

Second, we were staying in ASMo. It was raining when we were leaving DTD. Again, it was about 8:30 or 9:00. We were under the roof waiting for the bus. As we were waiting, people came up and stood outside the roof. When the bus came, those people came around the outside and cut in front of everyone waiting under the roof. We could not get on that bus because we had a large group (about 7) and could not all make it on. It was INSANE the way people pushed their way on the bus. Then we waited well over 30 minutes for the next bus and the same exact thing happened!!!! :fork: It's crazy the way DTD is set up compared to MK, who uses the queue lines for boarding.

Why doesn't DTD use the queue lines? Seems like it would be more fair that way. Is the situation as bad if you're staying at a Deluxe or DVC resort? Are the buses better/worse? Are the people just as rude? Our next trip is our first DVC trip and I really hope I don't have to deal with that situation again...

Thanks!

Transportation to and from DTD has always been bad regardless of the resort you are at. During peak traffic times the buses have to take the back way in which is an incredibly long route. This adds quite a bit to the wait time for a bus. No clue why they do not uses the roped off queue but in the rain it would have made little difference. The only thing that make people crazier that heat is falling water.

Just our of curiosity...Why did you not take the boat to DTD form PORS? It almost always beats the bus and is generally quite a pleasant ride.

Two reasons we did not take the boat back: 1) the line looked really long (although had we known about the bus, it probably would have been quicker). 2) It was the beginning of Feb and it was quite cool out and we did not have anything warm enough and did not want to spend $100 to outfit the 3 of us to ride back.

Obviously, it was poor planning on our part and we certainly learned our lesson.

Regarding your comment about the route they take during certain hours. If they know this happens at certain times, why not put more buses in the rotation? Having one more bus per resort would have made things much better.

No clue on that one. But even with another bus or two on the route the trip there seems to take forever when going in that way. It has gotten to the point where I do not even bother to do anything but drive to DTD. With the AC gone I have no reason to drink there aside form the one I might have with dinner.

Just backing up what Master Yoda said ...

I'll bet that if you took a poll of veteran Disney Transport riders and asked them to name the one destination they have the most "issues" with, Downtown Disney will get about 90% of the votes. No exaggeration.

Basically that is what I was asking for. I wanted to know if the transportation was any better based on resorts or DVC choice. It's just so frustrating! :brick: I wouldn't even mind waiting a little longer for a bus if there was a fair and orderly way for people to get on the bus. What will it take for them to do something about it? Someone to get trampled???

All in all Disney is pretty bad at controlling their transportation, mainly buses. Almost everytime I'm their they either have too many buses going to certain areas they think will be busy but aren't or just way too few for what is really busy. You then go and tell a bus driver and they say they'll call it in but nothing is really done and you're stuck on what transportation headquarters thinks is going on.

Seems fairly typical to me. Yeah, we have shared that experience at DTD too. Be thankful they stopped the west side drop off and pick ups.

The only resorts that I would classify the transportation to DTD as good would be PORS, POFQ, OKW and SSR and that is simply because it is a boat and they are extremely consistent and not subject to the rerouting and traffic snarls of the buses. Quite honestly my wife and I stayed at PORS many times on or solo trips for this fact alone.

Understand your issue about temperature for a boat ride, but as Master Yoda said...for 10 months out of the year, that is the way to go. Consistent timetable, usually not too crowded. Main downside is that it stops at midnight.

Which is not much of an issue now that there is no PI.

I have been to WDW more times than I can count and have never had a good experience going to Downtown Disney from anywhere on the property. I think that the whole bus system needs additional improvements. With the technology available today, there should be a countdown sign at ever bus stop telling when the next bus is a arrive for each location. The bus stops should be monitored to make sure busses arrive on time and that there is enough room on the bus for those waiting.

I always stay at POFQ. Everytime we want to go to DTD, we take the boat. Waiting for a bus is like waiting for it to snow in Orlando. I can't say much for other resorts, but have always found it easier to take the boat to POFQ or POR and vice versa for DTD. The line may look long, but always moves quick.:)
