I will be driving to the World from Louisiana and want to stop over in Tallahassee to break up the long drive. Does anyone know of any nice places to stay along I-10 in and around the Tallahassee area? I chose Tallahassee because it is about halfway to Orlando from where we will be leaving from.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a magical day!

We drive from North Louisiana (we leave in 10 days!) and we usually stop in Panama City Beach or Pensacola Beach, but we have stopped in Tallahassee once. We stayed at the Ramada Inn, the lobby was gorgeous but that was just the front! the rooms were HORRIBLE! very outdated, very DIRTY and dusty....then we went into the bathroom, which apparently had not been cleaned! the only PLUS to it was it was next door to a Cracker Barrell! LOL...Sorry I couldnt help!

Last time we drove from New Orleans was in 2009. We stayed at a Holiday Inn Express just west of Tallahassee near Quincy, FL for out stop-over.

It's right off I-10. The hotel and rooms were nice and had a free little breakfast.

Is the drive from Nola really that bad? We were just gonna drive it straight. Its gonna be me and my friend and my four year old.

Not usually. You can make it in 9-10 hours but this was our first trip with our daughter. She was 1yr 7months at the time so we broke the drive up into two parts so she wasn't stuck in a car seat all day.

She's been back twice since then but we've flown (and will be flying again in 16 days, woot). But I'm sure at her age (turns 5 during our trip) she could handle the straight through drive with some movies and games.

I live in Tallahassee, and I can tell you that every hotel on the Monroe Street exit (exit 199) is awful, dirty and somewhat shady. There are lots of them there, but they're all awful.

If you wait to the next exit (203), there are much better choices. This is the more affluent part of town and the hotels reflect that. I can personally recommend the TownPlace Suites about a mile south off the interstate; but there are also other good ones right off the south side of the exit. Also a lot of really nice (chain and non-chain) restaurants on the north side of the exit.

Exit 199 - No. Exit 203 - Good to go.

I might be able to let you know tomorrow, we are driving from Houston tonight, and if we decide to stop at all, I was thinking in Tallahassee, there are a few Mariott (Fairfield, Courtyard and such) hotels pretty close to the highway from what i have seen online. Its going to be about a 15 hour drive from here, and i am not sure I want to do it all in one shot.

I am not sure about in Tallahassee but when we travel we have had relatively good luck with Hampton Inns and Comfort Inn/Comfort Suites. There have been a few in the "Comfort" line that have not been very nice but generally they are clean and comfortable. Both chains offer a nice breakfast selection with the room price. Have a wonderful trip.

We've driven from Houston several times. While we drove straight through this past time, that section of the FL panhandle after Pensacola is brutal, so we usually plan on stopping somewhere between Mobile & Pensacola on the way there and between Biloxi and the LA border for the way back.

ok ok I see...lol...I would do the same. We go in 73 days! I'm gonna need a vacation after all this mardi gras/super bowl mess.

We were down in your neck of the woods doing a college visit to Tulane during mardi gras, good times but whoa, but I'd have to go to WDW for mardi gras if I lived around NOLA too!

When we drove straight through this past Nov, we left the house around 8:30p CT and were checking into YC @ WDW around 3pm ET the following day. Our only significant stop was in Tallahassee where we filled up on breakfast... enough so that the snacks I'd packed would get us through all the way to arrival, but we were also traveling w/our 2 younger children...so that meant a number of bathroom breaks. Still...not bad time either.
