Driving Cleveland to Orlando with 6 in tow..

Hi. My wife and I plus our 6 kids are driving down to Disney this coming July and we are looking for advice on which way to go from Cleveland. We went 3 years ago to Orlando and went 71S to 75S. I know that's technically the longer drive but we figured it would be quicker then going through the mountains of 95S.

The problem we ran into last time was construction on 75S that really slowed us down allot. (And an accident induced hour long terrific jam just outside of Atlanta)

We are driving straight through this time and really want to find the quickest route. Is the construction still bad on 75S? Would 95s be actually quicker?

My family of 5 has always driven from PA to WDW & have taken 95S every trip. I've been there in 2000, 2002, 2007, 2010 - 2014. I don't know if it is quicker, but we like that route. When we get into VA around Richmond we take 295 to bypass the problem we ran into. Otherwise it depends on the time of days & when you go, but we really didn't run into many problems. Traveling at night is better to catch up in lost time. Crashes well draw a straw you never know, & construction we use the I95 website to check. But really didn't ever run into a lot of it, & it's inevitable also. But good luck with your trip others may reply as well. Have a great time.

We take 65s from Indianapolis to 75s and found the construction to be an issue more on 65 last April. We considered taking 74 over to Cincinnati and taking 75s the whole way but ended up not. Either way, before your I would check updated websites telling you where potential construction delays are and hopefully that will help. Enjoy your trip!

Wouldn't 77s to Columbia, SC, crossing over on 26e to 95s be the fastest? I'm sure you'll have mountains but I wouldn't think they'd be that big of a problem.

We have always driven down 75S from up here in Canada (an hour north of Detroit, so we pick it up when we hit Detroit) and although we have run into a few hiccups on a couple of trips, I still generally think it is the easiest way down from up this way.

If you or someone you know is a AAA member, go into their office and ask them for a TripTik a day or two before you leave. Even though you may know your way down there and back off by heart, they will mark off any construction currently underway (usually right up to the minute) and tell you the fastest and easiest way to avoid it. We always go in and have found the TripTik to be extremely handy. Plus, it shows you where restaurants, gas stations and things like that are along the way too. Best part is - it is absolutely free to members!

Good luck and hope you guys enjoy your trip! I've been there with ya with our van always filled to the hilt (6 people)! First trip with just me and my wife coming up this April!

We'd most likely go:

77 South to Columbia, SC
26 East to 95 South
95 South to Orlando, FL

We drove to Cleveland last month (from Raleigh, NC) and had no issues with 77... even with the colder weather and mountains of WV.

Outside of some construction work (no delays) in Jacksonville, FL... our trip on 95 last week to Ft Lauderdale/Naples was a breeze.

No way would we ever attempt a travel route through Atlanta... Especially if a faster route (which according to GoogleMaps this is) was available.

Atlanta was a breeze actually, but just got unlucky in a traffic jam near Flippin, Ga because of an accident.

Yes.. there really is a town called Flippin,Ga..

I think we will try the 95s route this time though

Live in Indy, take I74 to I75, little longer, however, we by bypass Nashville which always has traffic, crashes and such. We time Atlanta well, get in the HOV lane and drive on thru.

We drive from Pittsburgh every year, and our route is based on our AAA trip tiks. We go 77 to 26 to 95. Usually we don't have any problems. We always dial 511 when we enter a new state. its an automated message that gives you traffic conditions. It includes accidents, construction, exit numbers and wait times. If something is really backed up, we try an alternate route. Love that hotline, take advantage of it if you're driving. :)
