Dreamworks question

I was wondering if Disney has any of the rights to Dreamworks animated movies. I know that Shrek is at universal but that Disney aquired some rights in 2010 (I think). I think the Madagascar characters go prefect in Animal Kingdom and was wondering if they actually have any Dreamworks character rights?

Does anyone know?

Thanks!

I wouldn't hold your breath...The majority of Dreamworks films are under the Touchstone side of Disney..So it's pretty much a No on that..When I saw that War Horse was through Disney/Dreamworks and Spielburg behind it..My first thought was Roger Rabbit but, I'm not getting my hopes up..

I don't think Disney has any real connection to Dreamworks animation. You are correctly referring to how Disney now distributes movies under the Dreamworks SKG banner, but I believe Dreamworks Animation split into a separate company several years prior (according to Wikipedia, 2004).

Interesting how Spielberg is, in effect, now a Disney employee.

Correct. DreamWorks and DreamWorks Animation are now two separate entities. The Shrek and Madagascar series are DreamWorks Animation, not DreamWorks. If the two were still together I doubt Katzenberg would have ever agreed to working with Disney again. He still seems to hold a bit of a grudge and seems to enjoy having a strong competing animation studio.

Madagascar characters are exclusively at Universal right now. They have meet and greets in Florida and their own themed land in Singapore

Roger really needs to make a comeback. He's too good a character to languish like this...

If we have Lion King characters, what would be the point in having the cgi animals from Madagascar?

Shrek would be one of the only dreamworks animation franchise that could work out well in a disney park.

But the fact that almost everyone believes it to be a Disney-made film is reason #1 that Disney needs to get out of distributing animation (reason #2 being Mars Needs Moms).

EDIT: Actually, reverse reasons #1 and #2.

The need to get out of distributing movies and putting their name on it. When consumers see disney on a movie, they expect that it was made by disney and lives up to their standard.
