Dr. Who at Epcot

I know of this series and it popularity, but how do all of you in the states watch it seeing that it is an English show? Also, what is a good point to dive into the series? I obviously can’t go back to season 1 episode 1 since it’s been since 1963.

BBC America, if you have it on your cable line-up, shows the current episodes. If you do not have access to it, I would recommend trying to find the series/season sets at your local library.

When to step in is a sticky question. At present, they are in the midst of series 6; for the current run (i.e. Matt Smith), I would recommend trying to find the Series 5 episodes, once again on cable, OnDemand, or at the local library or rental, to see the current Doctor from the beginning. If you are more interested in seeing any of the previous Doctors, I would suggest the same, to try to catch their reigns from the beginning.

As has been previously noted, your favorite will probably be your first; I am very much a fan of Matt Smith, but my Doctor will always be Tom Baker (i.e. Doctor #4).

Yeah, I don't know if SyFy is really picking up the new episodes or not because BBC America has had a full season of Matt Smith. He's good I just havent warmed up to him like I did with Christoper Eccelston and Dave Tennant.

Ditto (almost). It took me a while to warm up to DT after the loss of the Ninth Doctor--a very little while, I suppose, because I was won over by the line: "not bad for a man in his jimjams".

I find all of the new cast annoying, so I find something else to do while DH is glued to it. Sad, because like NJDizFan, I go all the way back to the PBS Tom Baker eps.

Edit: After reading thru the whole thread (didn't realize it was so old when I jumped in!), I have to agree that the DT episodes did get way too maudlin towards the end. And I loved Martha after she left the Tardis--always liked the character, couldn't stand that she was always mooning over the Dr. Also, while I don't enjoy watching the Matt Smith series, if he's returned the quirky, rather emotionless Dr., then I guess he's doing it right.

As another shared just above me, Doctor Who in its current series run is being broadcast here in the US on the cable channel, BBCAmerica. On some, if not all, cable providers that carry it that channel is more than likely part of an "extended package" collection of add-on channels to the basic line-up. There are also DVD sets available of the new series for purchase, renting (depending on your video rental place), Netflix and such.

For the classic series (I refrain from calling it "old") that ran from 1963 to 1986/87, the PBS channels (public broadcasting) were the main source for watching Doctor Who on television back in the 70s/80s/90s here in the US. These days, those stories/episodes are being released on DVD in random order. Quite a few of the stories/episodes from during the first two actors' time (1963-1969/70) are lost/destroyed/were never archived. The BBC has released a couple of these missing stories/episodes in a "reconstructed" form either using still production photographs and audio recordings made during original production or animated recreations.
