Downtown Disney vs. Universal Citywalk

<<I love that Citywalk has a Margaritaville! Love Jimmy! To me the only reason to go to Downtown Disney is for the World of Disney store. So if Jimmy Buffett would just move Margaritaville to DD then I'd be in heaven!>.
I am a Jimmy Buffett Fan , too and that is the only reason I go to Citywalk.
Years ago Disney DID approach Jimmy about putting M'ville at Disney, but Jimmy refused, so sad for us.

I love going to DTD, and we go pretty much everynight when we are on vacation. It is nice to relax and take our time shopping. I have been to City Walk and liked the variety in the stores. Margaritaville was great to get some presents. I liked the fact that City Walk was empty. To think about it both of their parks were empty also. The longest wait we had was for the Mummy ride and the wait was maybe 20 minutes. We felt like the parks were ours and we didnt want them. There was a full section of US that smelled like barf all day. :hurl: In one day were did both parks and City Walk. We planned 2 days and bought the special tickets so we were forced to go for day 2 and got bored fast

Well for food, CW gets a point because of Margaritaville. For entertainment, DD gets a point because of HoB and Cirque. For shopping, DD gets the 3rd and final point and is the victor!

I actually prefer DD over Citywalk.

The only reason CW really gets business is because you are forced through it to go to either of the parks.

The AMC at DD is a little better, I think the CW one is a bit ghetto. Although I have seen some good movies there.

Also when I lived nearby, I was CM so I got a discount at AMC and DD which was a bit better than the 10% I would get with my AP to Universal.

Not anymore. The prices all went up, and since the CM discount is merely a student ticket, you only save 10%. Normal tickets are $10 and student tickets are now $9. :(

I prefer DTD over Citywalk for shopping, as they have a larger selection of stores, albeit more Disney oriented as well, but still some nice stores. But Citywalk is definitely the place to go if you want to eat some great food. Emeril's, Margaritaville and now Bubba Gumps all trump anything DTD has to offer.

As for clubs, they're both very comparable.

I take it you have not had the Homemade Manicotti at Planet Hollywood then.

I tried to eat at Planet Hollywood once and had the worst experience. ugh.

As for comparing the two. Here's more in depth take.

As for beauty, they're both beautiful locales but I think CW gets the edge for just how beautiful it is to look across that water towards the two parks, or at night to look back across it towards the vibrancy of citywalk.

As for parking, yes its a long walk from the parking structure to Citywalk which is a bummer, but at least you can park. I can never find a parking spot anywhere at DTD. So slight advantage to CW.

As for shopping, well I'm a man so I could care less about shopping. DTD has the fun Disney things though so if I'm going to do shopping I probably slightly prefer DTD.

For food? I think Citywalk wins that hands down. I do enjoy much of the dining at DTD especially Captain Jacks and Wolfgang Pucks, but I like the restaurants such as Margarittaville, Bubba Gumps, and Emerills much better so advantage CW.

For entertainment? DTD probably gets a slight edge since there's more to do. You've got HoB, Cirque, the movies, and Disney Quest. But CW does have Blueman, a theatre, and the concerts outside, and at Hard Rock.

As for the clubs, I think the adventurers club alone gives DTD the edge here, but other than that they're about the same. I'm not much of a clubbing person though so this part doesn't really matter to me.
