Downtown Disney traffic is insane tonight

The only way I'll experience DTD anymore is by parking at Saratoga Springs and walking.

Shhhhh.......

For God's sake (wo)man!!!! They are listening! Every try parking at Boardwalk during F&W? More questions than getting on a plane in NY or DC. We would not want that to happen when we go into SSR to go to the...... cough.. Turf Club... Do we??????

Provocateur, Rancanteur, Plaisanter, du Jour
Mannequins. Adv Club. Comedy Warehouse. Motions. 8-Trax.

Thats why.

And there's my opening to say, "I miss the Adventurer's Club."

It was a wonderful concept. It was well done. It just couldn't be monetized in an effective way. It could be done as well with a different financial structure. It's gone so to quote my Frozen Friends I will "Let it go"....

You can always say you want to purchase something at the 70's pro shop.

Only if they were trying to fix this by adding two parking garages and a total of ten lanes, as well as a centralized bus location and have pedestrian bridges installed so less traffic lights stop traffic.

My thoughts exactly... It's weird, because I thought DTD was going to be boarded up since Adventurers Club was closed.

I highly doubt that the new infrastructure will help. I remember a time when DTD was a ghost town and it was easy to find a parking space. Those days are long gone. Even if by some act of great engineering they expanded the roads to 8 lanes by stacking the roads, the traffic would still be bad. I just hope once the construction is complete that traffic will be smoother. But I think that might be too optimistic.

The main problem is you've got a combination of cars just trying to get down Buena Vista to Hotel Plaza and 535, plus people trying to get to parking where there are three or four different choices of where to go, so all cars get mixed up into a couple of lanes. There's no clear signage on which lane to be in, so you can be stuck in a line for ages due to accidentally ending up in a queue for parking, even if you're just trying to get through to the other side.

If you removed the cars that had no intention of parking and were just trying to get through by making the lane signs clearer, and opened the lots on a phased basis so that people didn't have to play roulette with the queues, that would solve much of the problem. As it is you just have everyone bottlenecking together to get down an already narrowed road with no clue of where they're supposed to go, and it's a nightmare.

I know it's hard to know the answer but with all the lanes being added is it safe to assume they will re-rout how you exit the garage by the theaters?

Getting in and finding parking wasn't too bad for me (i do stay away on the weekends) but it took a solid 45 minutes to leave the garage because everyone wants to turn right and it's a combo of the garage and the other lot all merging into that 1 turn lane.

I just do not understand why Disney is not doing something about this...wait they are improving the roads in and out of Downtown Disney, building a second parking garage and adding a new ramp for I-4. Looks like work is moving fast on all these projects.

It's being built fast but even with all this extra infrastructure, I think their will still be a mess because as humans we tend to be really stupid about how we drive in and out of a major retail center. Not being a rude human being, just being a realist. If there aren't any problems in the beginning there will be in the future. Because if we can all recount, Once Upon A Time... There was only one entrance and exit to the Walt Disney World Resort. Over the years they built extra ramps and entrances and still traffic prevailed. It's just inevitable, we can't avoid traffic. Perfect example, take Manhattan Island. You can build bridges and tunnels and those things will have just the same amount of traffic. nearly 49 million people visited the WDWR last year whether they went to the parks, stayed on property for lodging, or went to DTD. It doesn't matter how many levels of parking you have. This place will always be crowded because its enjoyable to the masses.

I think the big game changer is going to be the exit ramp from I-4. This will move a great deal of traffic off the other streets and allow easier entrance for those visiting only Disney Springs. Only time will tell.

I have been the project manager on a couple of large garage projects and yes I think that a year and a half is fast for building a parking deck the size of this one.

Especially when you consider the construction is off of a major road and in the middle of a thriving business district it is amazingly fast.

PS I recently visited and it was easy entering and exiting the garage. Not sure why some struggle with it.

They probably can't read the signs.

Are the pedestrian bridges open yet? Once they are open, many of the delays will be greatly reduced. Many guests park near the Casting building, and the lights are timed to give them a very long time to cross the street. There is also a delay caused by pedestrians crossing near the Hilton and SunTrust bank. These lights are a major contributor to the delays.

As far as the backup you see on I-4 as you approach 535, it's been that way for decades on busy nights. It was that way when I first got here in 1988. The backup you encounter if you go past 535 and try to backtrack using the EPCOT exit and Buena Vista Drive is new. It's partly caused by the reduction of the merge lane from the exit off of World Center Drive to Buena Vista Drive. You used to be able to exit without completely stopping. Now, if there is oncoming traffic you have to completely stop.

The light where you turn left into DTD parking, or right into Typhoon Lagoon, is also poorly timed. They have been experimenting with regular timing, or ultra long timing. It's hard to explain, but that light is also a cause of the problems.

I think it will be very easy to get to DTD once both parking garages are open and the construction is complete. It's too early to judge because there is still so much left to do. One thing to remember is that once the new exit directly into the parking garage is complete, no one who plans to visit DTD should be using 535 or the World Center/Buena Vista drive option. This means 535, Hotel Plaza Blvd, and Buena Vista drive should be mostly free of DTD traffic coming from I-4 westbound.

One last thing. Buena Vista drive in front of DTD is under construction and missing lanes. So, again, it's too early to judge.

All this being said...it still absolutely sucks trying to get in and out at night. I do everything I can to avoid it.

And this is why, until they have everything else done, you couldn't pay me to park in that garage.
