Downtown Disney Bus Fire

I was coming home after shopping and when I turned at the intersection of Downtown Disney and the Hotel Plaza Blvd (the road with the Downtown Disney Area Hotels)at about 3:15pm, the police were out directing traffic and Reedy Creek were on the scene. Upon closer inspection, I saw a Downtown Disney bus that was still smoking and 3/4 of the bus was all burned up. Only the front part was remaining. It looked pretty bad. I don't know if anyone was hurt but I hope not. I can't find any more details yet.

This isn't the first occurance of a Disney Transport catching fire. A few years ago after I checked out, I was walking out to my car at the All Star Sports and I heard sirens so I glanced over to the bus stops and saw smoke and flames spewing out of the back of a bus!! Thank goodness nobody was hurt!

The OP was not reffering to a Disney Transport but rather one of the buses that services the hotels on hotel plaza Blvd. Those buses (even though they say Downtown Disney on the side) are not owned or operated by Disney.

As for Disney transports they too have had bus fires in the past but they are not very common.

Hi disneykw. For the sake of clarification, was this a Hotel Plaza Blvd. bus or a WDW bus? The Hotel Plaza Blvd. buses are run by Fleetwood Limo. Thanks.

Edit: Thanks Peter, I just saw your post.

I was one of the first responding Cast Members. It was a Downtown Disney Resort Area bus, not Disney Transport. No guests were on the bus, the driver was off before the flames broke out.

Edit: the flames broke out at about 2:25 - 2:30pm

I saw the smoke from I4 and was headed to DTD. I too saw what the OP did. There wasn't much left of that bus that's for sure. Glad to hear that no one was injured.

Never a good thing, but glad no one was hurt. Thanks for the information. Wouldn't want to SEE what traffic was like down there with a bind-up like this!

This is the exact reason why I don't like to sit at the back of the bus - those seats are ALWAYS hot... like they are just waiting to catch fire or something. Kinda scary to sit right above the engine!!!

Huh. When I was out driving yesterday I passed a burned up bus being towed. I wondered what was up with that, I guess now I know.

There are bus fires everywhere, Disney, Chicago, New York, just like car fires can happen anywhere, Disney, Chicago, New York. Fires do happen. This incident will not stop me from riding transportation anywhere at Disney whether is be Disney transportation or the other bus mentioned that had the fire. If I let this happen, I would not be able to get to work in Chicago since I take the bus daily. Sorry to hear about the fire, glad no one was hurt.

I had the distinct pleasure of working our DVC desk at Westisde that day. You could see the plack smoke across the lake and guests were constantly asking what happened, all I would say was, "we are working on it"
Luckily no one was hurt though.
