Doopey's speech problems

I was just watching Snow White when a friend asked me if there is a reason why Dopey does not talk throughout the entire movie. I am pretty sure I had already heard an explanation to that question. However, I can't remember.

Does anyone know?

Anyways, the reason why Dopey doesn't talk according to Happy is that "He don't know! He never tried." The real reason why he doesn't talk is because it makes him pantomime a lot which makes him more comical.

The reason he doesn't speak is simple...

You see, he USED to speak when he was younger, but he saw his father get killed. That day, he became mute. It won't be until he witnesses a Christmas Miracle at the end of the movie that he'll break his silence and whisper to Bill Murray, "God bless us, everyone..."
