Doing the crazy thing and skipping the Disney Parks

Our next trip is planned for March 2014 and we will be staying on property, my sister DVC but we are also thinking about skipping WDW parks this trip. We spend the day at the PGA tournament and only hit the parks at night so we have limited park time. Thinking about taking the year off mostly because of the FP+ and not wanting to deal with it when Disney is still trying to figure out how and if it is going to work. Haven't been to Sea World in about 8 years and only been to Uni once so they may get our money in March.

In in the same boat @Since1976. I've been very fortunate to visit WDW and Disneyland on my own several times since 2007. In fact I am visiting Orlando three times and Anaheim one time in 2013.

I visited WDW and Universal in early March at the start of the Flower and Garden Festival, and I am returning to WDW in November for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. The November trip I am not purchasing a ticket to visit the parks, though I am running through three of them and the Boardwalk area on Nov. 9. Just a quick weekend trip. Three weeks later I will be back in Central Florida for the Space Coast Half Marathon near Kennedy Space Center, but I will not get close to WDW, though I will be flying into Orlando.

Labor Day weekend I will be running the Disneyland Half and will visit the parks, and run through them too.

But there are so many other things to do in Florida than just visit WDW (I have friends that live all over the Sunshine State). After the Space Coast Half Marathon Thanksgiving weekend, I am looking to either spend a day or part of a day at Universal or Sea World and spend a day at Kennedy Space Center before flying back home. If I got back to Florida it might be for another Space Coast Half Marathon and/or a cruise.

Not crazy what so ever.

Before we started a family we went to Disney World 3 times in 5 years. The last one was the "well been married 5 years now are we going to start a family ?" So the third trip was the last hurrah so to speak. To be honest we were board. Not enough change to the parks in that short of time frame. It was forced. I am amazed with the veracity of the fans that go down every year.

With all that said, my 2 DD's are huge Harry Potter fans so there is no way we do not go to Universal on our next trip to Orlando. Actually, I am looking forward on going there. However, board or not, there is no way I am going to be that close and not dip my toe over to DW. Nope...cant do it !!

Waiting and not visiting Disney for years on end, makes going there even more special and more anticipatory. I have my memories to carry me.

Perfectly fine. WDW is not everything. UNI isn't everything either. Taking some time off from Disney isn't always bad.

When I was a kid (70's), we went to Florida and made time to fit in Disney. Today people go to Disney and don't try too hard to fit in Florida. Best Florida trip ever was 2012 to spring training to watch my Pirates with my family.
