Doing Disney the "wrong way"

On my most recent trip, two of my group were a young, healthy married couple. By the third day, we were all noticing that the husband had to stop at, quite literally, every single restroom. When we asked his wife, she sighed. "He's got a small bladder..." she admitted. Every single restroom! My trip was defined by standing outside bathrooms in all four parks.
He must be related to my husband. Hubby calls it a nervous bladder but let's be honest here... even when I am 9 months pregnant (which has happened 4 times since we got married so I can say this with authority) he needs a restroom 4 times as often as I! My whole family thinks I am lazy when we go somewhere because every time one of the kids has to pee I send my husband to take them. They don't get that I do that because he is utilizing the facilities each time as well!:joyfull:

This wont be a popular opinion but for me doing Disney the wrong way would be doing it without an ECV. I'm not saying everyone needs one but I am saying that when I do the parks without one it's miserable. I have fibromyalgia. I have a really severe case of fibro. On a side note- I didn't realize that there are levels to fibro until one day I finally admitted that often I have pain not just from the muscles and joints but from the connective tissue and we are talking extreme pain, like when you tear a ligament except it doesn't subside! I had no idea that was a fibro thing as fibro is always referred to as a muscle and joint pain issue. I did some research and discovered that that third realm that I also feel is rarer and considered severe. Made me less scared about my body falling apart but sad to know it's something that will always be a possibility. Anyway, despite all the pain I was loathe to rent an ECV because I see so many people complaining about fat, lazy people on them. I knew for sure that that was what everyone would think should they see me in one. I didn't want people thinking that about me. Then I realized something- I would never tell my kids that they shouldn't hug me as they get older because someone might think them mama's boys. I would never tell them to not play a game because someone might think they aren't good enough. I would never tell them to allow someone else's negativity to hinder their joy. So why was I? I was allowing all of the nasty attitudes that people voice in the anonymity of the internet decide things for me. And we were all paying for it. My kids were having to wait while I sat and fought back tears from my pain level. My husband was having to do all the heavy lifting with the kids because we had to save every ounce of me just to walk. And I wasn't getting to enjoy trips we were paying a lot of money for. AND, the whole world was getting to deal with me being in so much pain. I'm not a complete female dog when in pain but definitely get closer to that end of the field. So, finally, this last trip I rented an ECV. Guess what? It made a world of difference. To heck with all the haters! Haha!

My in-laws go to wdw to shop. They don't ride a single ride, take in a single show, enjoy the parades. They drive ten hrs and buy tickets into the park just to shop! :jawdrop:

Wow, just wow. Guess they don't know Disney has an on-line store......or don't care.

Before you jump all over the title, let me explain. Most people probably have many different opinions on the right way to do a disney trip, and they are all mostly true for each individual. But I think there is probably a common agreement amongst those on these boards as to the wrong way to do a disney trip. It is so frustrating when people do that, then complain about it after. I just heard from an acquaintance who went to disney for the first time. Very little research done, went in with very few plans. Didn't go on the Tower of Terror because one person doesn't like roller coasters. Didn't go on Soarin' because Star Tours made someone feel sick, and didn't want to go on another simulator. Didn't get to Hollywood Studios early and so never was able to get a fast pass for Toy Story Mania.

It's so hard to watch someone go there, knowing full well how it's going to turn out. Oh well.

My sister does absolutely everything last minute, and has never been to WDW. This is an actual conversation that we had a few months ago:

Sister: "I'm thinking about taking the kids (3 & 6) to WDW this year!"
Me: "Great! Let me know if you need any help! WDW can be pretty overwhelming. If you'd like to bring them down at a time we're going to be there, we'd be happy to help you with them, so you and your husband could get a dinner out or something. We have two trips planned and both are at low crowd times."
Sister: "Actually, I was thinking that the whole family should go down around Thanksgiving. Wouldn't that be fun?"
Me: "Um..."
Sister: "Grandma would love it!"
Me: "Grandma is 93 and refuses to use mobility assistance. The crowds would be literally dangerous."
Sister: "No, see, that's why we'd be going over Thanksgiving! I can't imagine there'd be many people there then."
Me: *head explodes*
Sister: "What?"
A friend of mine what advice on going to WDW but he was leaving the following week! Worse yet, he was going for his daughter's cheerleader competition. He says he still has nightmares of the crowds.

My best friend has fibromyalgia so I understand. She would need an ECV too.
