Dogs walking around Resorts

Hello. Frequent WDWMAGIC poster and WDWCM. I was just curious as to if there was a policy regarding having pets, specifically dogs, on a leash walking around the resort?

Have had thoughts on doing this with my pit.

Even beyond the pitty thing... I mean, trust me, I'm a dog person through and through, but I just can't imagine a dog having much fun in a theme park.

Swear that this is true...so odd...12/28, MK, saw Electric Parade, Castle show and Wishes with family, fought the masses getting out....my family of course wanted to hit stores one last time (our last night)...I had to sit so I went into that cul de sac on the left side of main street (heading out) and grabbed a bench, it was unusually secluded and quiet there considering the massive crowd in the park...saw some balloon vendors coming out of that service door...anyway guys strolls in from Main Street with bulge in sweatshirt...out pops very small dog...im assuming a chiuaua (spelling?) has leash walks dog in cul de sac, dog poops, he picks it up, puts it in trash, he lifts dog up by yanking leash...puts back in sweatshirt...

I hate people so much.

Only Service dogs and emotional support dogs are allowed as per ADA. Pets are not al;lowed, any pets. and rightfully so.

Now that said, I have no problems with Pit Bulls, raised correctly, they are just like any other canine. However do you really think brining your Pit to a WDW resort or any major, crowded place a good idea? So many people are afraid of them, it will only cause people to be upset and make complaints and then get you and your dog removed, adding to a already unfairly tarnished rep.

Just my HO!!!

I think you can take a dog to Fort Wilderness. Maybe not. You could call and check. :)

The rest of the Disney resorts are not pet-friendly. There are lots of pet-friendly places in Orlando, if you're determined to bring your dog on vacation.

Ft Wilderness is the only pet friendly resort in WDW.
Isn't it only a section of the campsites, too? Like you can't do the cabins with a pet, right? Trying to remember.

Believe me, I love my toy schnauzer with my whole heart. She's my girl (in a house full of boys). Anyone who follows me on Instagram knows and prob'ly gets sick to death of seeing my dog. I know I post more of her than my sons. I've been asked would I like to take her to WDW or on a cruise. Honestly? No. She would be a wreck from all the crazy unfamiliarity. And she travels with me on road trips quite a bit. Travel isn't new to her. Unless it was a vacation where I was going to be at our home-base a lot and when on the go I was going places I could take her, I just don't think it'd be okay for her. Of all the vacations I've thought of in recent years that I'd consider taking her I've only come up with Key West in a pet friendly cottage. I could bring her around with me when riding bikes, walking, or driving in a golf cart. She wouldn't be cooped-up all day alone in a kennel. You know? My approach overall for this sort of thing is how would my dog like it. Would she enjoy the experience. In Key West I believe she would. Disney resort or cruise? Heck no.

We are currently in the process of finding a new tenant for our rental house. Our pet policy is "case by case". I was asked last week about a "sweet" 6 yro Rottweiler. I hated to do it but had to say no. I felt bad. I did. I know it seems like I'm lumping in with the breed generalization like with Pitts and I hate that. I don't subscribe entirely to "all ____ breed is dangerous". It begins with the owner/parent and how they handle their pet. My dog could be a mean little heifer but she's not. She's always eager to please the people because I've raised her to be submissive to humans. She sees people as alpha to her. I had to be the jerk and tell this potential tenant no for insurance reasons. My insurance company would dump me in a heartbeat if I took a Rottie, a Pitt, or any of the "killer" breeds. You know? I just thought I'd mention it because I thought of it and felt soooooo bad about that.

I believe so. I am 99% positive that they do not allow them in the cabins.

Service dogs only. This is for maintenance and safety reasons, of course.

However, there is a "pet resort" where you can drop off your pets during your stay. It's ridiculously luxurious.

I know something along these lines came up a while back. One of the other issues- just dogs in general -is people curbing their dogs. Even if you're diligent about doing this, many people are not- so I couldn't see Disney lightening up on this just over the possibility of having to cover cleanup (or risk the grounds even temporarily tarnished by such messes)...or additional trash runs to reduce the smell coming from trash cans where people who have picked up after their dogs may be tempted to toss their bags.

@sweetpee_1993 also brings up an excellent point on the insurance matter. Even if your dog is a sweet properly trained pit (or any breed for that matter) - the insurance companies have that list of red flag breeds. What's interesting is that those red flag breeds are not at the top of the breed dog bite lists. It's typically toys and other smaller dogs that are responsible for the bulk of the reported dog bites; however, the damage potential from a dachshund or Chihuahua vs. a Rottweiler, Pit, etc. is the root of the insurance red flags. Minus service dogs, it's understandable just from this standpoint alone why they'd be against it.

Yeah, I'd be surprised. They seem to treat the cabins like hotel rooms. No pets. I'm pretty sure I read that it's only a certain loop in the campground that allows pets.

Hi Sweetpea.

FW has loops set up for pets. If they need more sites, the other loops will be assigned as pet loops. FW will no longer except exotic pets.

If your not at the site, Pets must be inside the camping unit and if your using a tent/popup the pet must be in a cage. I have been told tenters with pets use some type of AC..I don't understand how that would work, but apparently it does.

As pointed out, no pets in Cabins.

Service and ESM animals, as per ADA, are the exception at all resorts.

Someone currently staying at CSR has a puppy in their room. I saw the guest walk the dog out to the grass so it could relieve itself. Not sure if it is a service dog or not. The puppy was not wearing the usual "service dog do not pet" vest and was really acting like a puppy.
