Dogs at Fort Wilderness

So my family and I are planning a trip for Late November/ Early December 2016 for 7 days and 8 nights. Our biggest issue that we have run into is what to do with our two dogs. We will NOT board them anywhere. They could not handle that and we could not handle that. We don't want to leave our dogs with strangers and we don't really have family/friends that would be able to watch them that long that they are used to being around.

We found a place offsite that we were looking into, but we really want to stay onsite. (Disney, get me a dog friendly hotel please! Thanks) So we have looked into camper rentals and prices for a campsite at Fort Wilderness since that is dog friendly. But I was wondering if anyone else here has taken their fur babies with them and have any thoughts/advice on doing so. Is it really safe for them? No one is going to come steal them? Do people complain about them a lot? (My babies are both very quiet so noise isn't an issue really) I sound like an overly worried parent because these are my babies.

We do love the looks of everything that Fort Wilderness has to offer too, so that really isn't an issue. Any info you guys have would be great! Thanks!

I found the is when I googled our topic. Not sure if it is up to date. I would call ahead and ask before bringing a pet.

Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground – This is the only accommodations owned by Disney that pets are allowed. Pets are not allowed in non-air-conditioned cars or tents. Guests staying in pet-designated campsite loops can let their canine pals roam and romp off leash in Waggin’ Trails Dog Park. Pet walk areas are also located throughout the campground.

Curious if you asked them if they would prefer a boarding facility where they would be secure and safe or in a camper alone where they could be fur baby-napped? They might have a preference.

Yeah, I wondered about that as well. OP stated, "We will not board them anywhere. They could not handle that and we could not handle that."
They could handle it fine. We board ours at least three times per year and they handle it just fine.

Have you seen the boarding facilities at WDW? I would not mind staying there.

It is located right around the corner from the camp ground entrance.

Have you ever been to some of the new boarding places? Dogs have it better than most people in many places.... The dogs will be fine...And as a grown-up you should be able to handle it as well....

I didn't even realize how close they were to each other, thank you for pointing that out. We didn't want to do much in the way of driving around Disney, just because we are used to basically two lane/one way country back roads and have seen the way people/buses drive around, but this doesn't look terrible.

@Tinkerbell397 That's basically what we gathered when we were looking too and I did check with Disney about how to go about bringing the dogs with us. So I am all set there. Thanks though!

As for the rest of you, thanks for your judgmental opinions. I am just looking for some info from people who HAVE brought their pets along with them.

It is incredibly easy to get to from Ft Wilderness. Take a left out of Ft Wilderness, then a right at the next light and you will see it on your right. Easy peasy!:)

OP stated she would NOT board them anywhere. Best Friends, which is a very nice facility, is still included in the sub-set of boarding facilities located anywhere.

Yet they still seemed to appreciate the info.

I don't consider sending them to a place during the day and bringing them back with us at night as "boarding" which is why I appreciated the info. If we use Best Friends it will be during the day and then they will be back with us at night. Not boarding.

Awesome, thanks!

You can't miss the building, it's got your avatar all over it.
I toured it as I considered flying our dog all the way down. Haven't done that yet, but the facility is exceptional and you'd be able to visit your dogs every day if you wanted to.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)

Yep ours also. They get boarded once or twice every year when we travel and they do wonderful (knock on wood lol). But everyone is different and hope the OP figures out what will make them happy and have a wonderful trip! :)

I read the whole thread and saw what the OP has said they were thinking on just bringing them there for the day only but thought I'd still reply to these posts.

Some dogs literally just can't handle being brought to a boarding facility. I have 5 dogs, 4 of them are shelter rescues. 2 of those 4, good luck trying to put them in a cage/pin/kennel/any small area with 4 walls and a ceiling that they think they will be locked into, it's not happening. They were both at the shelter for an extended period of time and when they see a row of cages it brings back memories of that place and they don't want any part of it. On the other hand, my other 3 dogs are just fine being in a kennel.

I took my English Springer Spaniel with me to FWCG. They have dog parks, lots of area to walk them. My dog enjoyed staying in our travel trailer and being with us in the afternoon and night much more than he would being boarded. I got up every morning and walked the loop with him. The people that came in contact with him loved hi
