Does WDW let anyone "save" benches and curb space for parades?

It would have to be manned at all times and even that is a challenge because people will still encroach. I always tell my wife that we need to spread ourselves out a little to maintain a reasonable amount of personal space.

Lucked into a bench at DCA this past summer for PTN. We had staked out a good spot on the ground in front of a tree between the bench and a trash can by Award Wieners. I had assumed the family group using it was staying and was pleasantly surprised when they gave it to us after finishing their hot dogs. Guess they weren't parade people.

...like putting down a blanket or coat or stroller and returning to the parade site before it begins?
You could but i wouldn't expect your stuff to be there when you return. CM's will remove any "lost" property and strollers are always moved to the nearest stroller area.

Even if you have one person from you party waiting people are going to move in slowly and when you get back you will be out of luck.

Honestly if this worked more people would do it or at least try.

If there's a group of you, and one person slips away briefly to visit the bathroom or get food for the others and then rejoins the group (while the others manspread enough to save space for one), that probably won't be too difficult to manage. However, it won't work the other way around (with one person trying to save space for several), particularly if you're getting close to parade time.

My father in law would be sitting at those spaces until we returned with food or bathroom breaks. But if he wasn't, can anyone REMOVE a blanket or stroller and claim the space?

I'd remove it if itvwas unattended - simply because it's selfish to save a space and pretty crass behaviour. If everyone did that, main street would be a sea of fleece blankets!

Money making tip to Disney, charge $20 per bench, maybe $10 for the equivalent curb space just for the parades.
When they sell the tickets make it part of the terms you need to be at your bench or space 10 minutes before the parade or you will lose your bench or spot.

Think of the MONEY $$$$$$
.... You know Disney... money, money, money ......
