Does Disney need another big thrill ride?

Yes but only to help even out the crowds and lines a bit.

That said, I don't think a ride necessarily needs to be a thrill ride to be truly enjoyable.

Hate to go against the popular opinion but no Disney doesn't not need more thrill rides and or roller coaster. Disney is a family vacation destination not a thrill park. The ride and attraction are suppose to be family friendly. I do like thrill rides slowly getting into roller coasters but to me Disney is a place where young family can go and everyone can have fun not just the thrill seekers. Keep Disney theme parks the way they are leave the thrill park attraction to USF and IOA.

I think this is a pretty close-minded statement. The 12-18 age range is a huge portion of Disney ticket sales, and that age range is probably the biggest demographic for thrill rides. By avoiding thrill rides altogether you start to shut out the teenagers and just make it a kiddie park.

Disney world is supposed to appeal to all age ranges, not just young children.

I'm late but so glad you mentioned this. I have a 12 year old and while she LOVES WDW, and she is into thrill rides. (Not super thrilling thrill rides, but the "average" thrill rides.) She loves ToT and EE is her favorite, by far -- she talks about it at least twice a week.

As she gets older, I would love for there to be a few more thrill rides added into the parks that she and my husband can do together. I don't want my daughter to feel like WDW is a "kiddie park", as you mentioned, once she is 15 and we are there as a family.

I'm not talking about adding your standard huge drop, looping, rollercoaster that gets mass produced for Six Flags, Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion, etc, but a fun thrill ride with great theming would be awesome.
There is a lot of potential in SWL and Avatar Land for the imagineers to come up with something great that would appeal to the pre-teen and teen demographic that is already visiting WDW. Hopefully they pull it off.

For me I would say no. I don't like coasters that much and motion simulator rides get me sick. Yes, I know, I'm like an old man.

However, being practical, I'd say yes. People do love them. While I don't go on the coaster or Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios, the lines are crazy for both of them. Same for the big coaster in Animal Kingdom (actually not that bad for me, until it goes backwards, then I get sick).

I agree with you...

But I'd change those numbers to 12-35!

I'm 32 and I still love the thrill rides. They're my favorite. Many of my friends only prefer them too, so obviously they are necessary for Disney to reach the entire family.

I would say yes, definitely.

And thrill ride doesn't have to equal coaster...though I'd love to see some more of those. Test Track, Tower of Terror, Dinosaur are all examples of thrill rides that don't rely on a standard roller coaster track. The thrill factor comes from the immersive environments and unique ride designs.

Yes. I wouldn't mine at least one at each park. People who love them will ride them, people who don't still have tons of things to do. One of the reasons I love magic kingdom is that there are 3 big rides so it spreads out the crowd a little bit more but it would be fantastic if they could add one on par with rock n roller coaster. It would be nice if each of the parks were that way, imo and might help them keep people with older kids coming back. It seems like so many divert to Universal and bush gardens once they hit middle school age. One big harness ride like rock n roller coaster in each park and like 2 more on par with something like thunder, space, or tower of terror. Where you have a level of big rides with a higher height requirement but others that are still fun and fall under disney's definition of a thrill ride but have the ability to take smaller kids on.

Do they NEED another thrill ride? No. Would it help counter Universal's moves? Sure.

People are still going to go to Disney no matter what. Unfortunately, they know that.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
Epcot should get a BH6 thrill to replace Energy... Magic Kingdom I think has plenty of thrills, at least compared to the other parks.. HS seems to be getting a few thrills hopefully with Star Wars and the family Slinky Dog coaster.. and AK .. Well. We need the excavator idea to come up again.

I would take some well done dark rides in the vein of Peter Pan any day. Of course, they'd just close them down and replace it with something lousy.

I don't want to duplicate another post I have about Epcot, but this is clearly where the Imagineers need to be concentrating with the projects at DHS and AK running. I don't think it's an unreasonable task to incorporate cutting edge attractions within the core vision of Future World (granted I don't know if Disney has such a vision), with Energy and Imagination as the primary targets. Also a hopeful wish for the WOL space. This would allow a more even flow of guests at Epcot, instead of mad dashes to Soarin and Test Track.

I think there is space for more thrill rides, like people say a "thrill ride" doesn't necessarily mean a coaster. I absolutely love ToT and RnRC, I was really disappointed with the 7DMT as when it opened I was hoping that would be great but I was a bit underwhelmed. I don't think necessarily a big track coaster out in the open, but just something else along the lines of RnRC for the teenagers maybe. I'm a huge lover of big rides but to me Disney is about the characters, the magic and the setting as well as rides but I know my brother is more of a thrill seeker and once he's done the few they have, he's done and would prefer to move on to another park. Maybe a few more would keep people like him occupied longer!

No, Disney does not need another thrill ride. Look, we don't go to Disney for thrill rides. None of us do. I go to Cedar Point for thrill rides. I go to Disney for the overall experience. Part of that experience is immersive rides. What are our favourite rides at WDW? Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Splash, etc. We also love the dark rides too because they take us to different places. Peter Pan, Small World, etc. Disney needs more of that. This is why people go there in the first place. We all have rollercoaster parks close by to us, but we don't all have Disney close to us.

Yes, they definitely do need more thrill rides, something perhaps on par with Six Flags, too. What kind of rides did they last give us? The extremely tame Dwarfs Mine Train and Little Mermaid. The only real thrill at Epcot is Test Track, so they could certainly use at least one more there in some fashion, even if it comes as something themed to fit a new pavilion, such as a sled ride through the mountains of Switzerland. DHS has Rock n Roller Coaster, but it has the problem of being an extremely short ride - too short in my opinion. Big thrill rides should be part of Disney, and I see no reason why they can't also be immersive as well.

Yes they need 1 more per park. Probably 2 at MK and Epcot. There is no thrill rides at MK or Epcot. If nothing else adding another mid level coaster (think EE or RnRC) would help distribute the lines off family rides like TT, BTM, Spash, Soaring, Space ect..
