Does Disney hold back rooms?

I am trying to book the Beach Club for November 5th - 9th and have been told that they are sold out for thoes dates. I know that it is the "Soap Star Weekend" which I could care or less about. Is it possible that it could be sold out, or is Disney holding back rooms.. trying to push other resorts... only to open a new block of rooms later. Any inside information would be appreciated. We were also told that the Boardwalk, Contemporary, Floridian and Yacht Club were also booked.

Well, you couldn't care less about the Soaps, but that (and the NJ school break and veterans day) are why you're having trouble getting a room.

Rooms do become available as people cancel or change plans. Last year (same weekend) we tried and tried to upgrade from AS Sports (late reservation). Best we could do was AS Movies.

One tip (how we got the AS Movies reservation) went to the Disney website and entered dates for our stay BEYOND the actual dates we wanted which made more choices available. I added days at one of the ends (I forget which) and then cancelled the other days over the phone.

The CM I spoke to then added one more room for us. She had to use the same method-book extra days, then cancel the others. Strange system.

Calling at 7 a.m. (Eastern Time) has worked sometimes for me in the past when rooms had been sold out the night before. This is because cancellations happen overnight, if the system has not shown a payment due by a certain date. On the next morning (open time at 7), the system cancels the unpaid reservation and puts the room back into inventory.

Well the Beach Club is close to MGM so that is why it is sold out for that weekend. And no Disney does not hold rooms back. Sometimes during slow seasons they do close floors or buildings. So even if they are not full they can be sold out.

RandeB is right! I remember a similar conversation about this subject last year. Also, WDW resorts does indeed hold back (block) rooms for certain preferred groups. AAA is the biggest one. AAA members are often able to book rooms through AAA when the rest of WDW resorts are seemingly booked solid. I know because I have gotten last minute reservations (when WDW told me they were booked solid) on several occasions through AAA. :animwink:

Thanks for all of the information. I did luck out today and booked the Yacht Club. I still have a hard time believing that most of the deluxe hotels are booked solid this early. Disney must have rooms that are blocked off for whatever reason. I was at the Beach Club Thanksgiving week 2001, and part of the 3rd floor was closed off. They were not doing any renovations.... it was just closed! I think it is rather risky for Disney to close certain floors or buildings.... I was just days away from booking the Portofino Bay for my entire stay.

Thanksgiving 2001? Yes, a lot of stuff was closed then...traveling had just about stopped after 9/11. We were in the WL in july 2001 and the place was packed as were the parks.

How does the WDW Room Booking Sysytem work?

How many fish in the sea?

How many times must a cannon ball fly,
before we're forever free?

For that matter....how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

The answers are blowing in the wind..........

:lookaroun :lookaroun :lookaroun :lookaroun :lookaroun

The World may never know.

I can tell you this though....rooms ARE held back for certain reasons. Mainly so they can have rooms available for last minute people who pay FULL PRICE! The more discounts you use, the fewer rooms you will find available to you. It's all about the CA$H!!!

You can try it sometime. Call and book a room with a discount, then call to book a room at full price. Suddenly the World is open to you. It's disappointing as a guest, but the WDW accountants love it!
