Does Disney have a "Theme" at all times?

We went to Disney last May and they are/were celebrating The Happiest Celebration on Earth. We won't be going again until 2009, and was wondering if they will be having a different type of celebration/theme at that time. I know the Happiest Celebration on Earth only lasts 18 months, but was wondering if there's ever a time when they don't have some kind of promotion or themeing going on.

They don't always have a celebration going on. However in recent years they have more often than not. When they don't have a celebration going on they usually have some other marketing theme to advertise with such as "magical gatherings" and "where magic lives."

well let's see here

in 2009.....MK will be 38
EPCOT will be 27
The Studios will be 20
and AK will be 11

so basically no no major thing will be happenin. MGM may have a special stuft animal with a pin on it's foot and there may be a few trading pins. so prbly not. sry

After the Abysmal failure of the HCOE compared to the HHOE (Disneyland), I think that Disney will be seriously reconsidering their celebrations.

I really wish they would just stop throwing money at changing/enhancing/whatever the park icons. That mirror thing has gotta go along with the Mickey "Epcot" wand. Enough is enough!

Wha Wha Wha? I certainly hope this is sarcasm... HCOE has been huge at WDW, MK broke attendance records this past year. WDW theme parks showed almost a 6% increase across the board (doesn't sound like much, but this is a huge amount). Certain months showed almost a 20% increase in attendance over the past half decade.

HCOE has been far from a failure. While the HHOE has been hugely successful, saying that HCOE was a failure is far from the truth.

Yes, it has brought in extra Attendance, but for the Amount of Capital spent to set the whole thing up it hasn't brought in enough. That's why Disney is quietly dropping the whole thing and pushing the Magic Your Way tickets, while Disneyland which got less than WDW is still going as strong as ever.

Anyway, the whole worldwide celebration thing was a whole lie - The only international park that acknowledged the 50th in any way Was Tokyo Disneyland with a plaque.

The castle will be back to normal in 2007. In my opinion, it is a nice change of scenery for a special occassion and would expect something similar in 2021 when WDW turns 50.

The Epcot wand was fine for the Millenium Celebration, but its time has come and gone.

I believe you are mistaken.

100YOM = Failure. The public saw through it, and the downfall in tourism made it worse.

HCOE = Not a failure. I haven't been able to find a single slow day in WDW this entire celebration. WDW is definitely making money.

I liked the 100YOM banners throughout the parks better than the current HCOE ones. :D

The HCoE celebration was immensely successful; we rarely seemed to have a slow season throughout the year. But the merchandise flopped. Reasons abound for the merchandise's failure. My opinion is that featuring Disneyland's castle on all of the merchandise was a mistake. I heard a lot of Guests complaining that it was the wrong castle; this is the same reason that the Cinderella Castle plastic toys sell quickly while the Sleeping Beauty ones just sit on the shelves (I'm sure it's the opposite in California).

Cast Connection, the CM liquidation store, has had HCoE merch for months; and it'll probably keep showing up over there! :)

...The celebration, however, was fantastic. I'm interested to see how Epcot's 25th anniversary turns out because it is the first non-fantasy-based park to celebrate a major milestone.

I understand your point of view, but I wish that the DL'ers would stop complaining about how WDW got more than they did. It's true that we got something for each park: a [stunted] version of Cinderellabration, Soarin', the LMA! show, and E:E. But Epcot is revitalizing Future World in time for its upcoming 25th anniversary anyway, the Studios needed a new attraction for the back half of the park, and DAK desperately needed anything new. In fact, the HCoE at WDW was more of a marketing push for attractions that probably would have shown up anyway.

Disneyland, on the other hand, got its life back. The park was completely refurbished and the remains of the Pressler insanity are being successfully washed away. DL already received a fantastic fireworks show, a new parade, and an updated Space Mountain; and they still have the subs to anticipate. That's four attractions--the same number as WDW--all in one park! Furthermore, DL probably hasn't looked this good in decades.

Now, if you were complaining about DCA...

That just shows you don't know what your talking about. Attendance is very important and since the HCOE the parks have been packed. As for capital spending, you can't count money spent on EE, Soarin', or LMAX. Those were going to be built regardless of the HCOE. And will continue to bring in guests (tons of guests) for many years after the celebration. Cinderellabration was the only one thrown together specifically for the HCOE. So all you really have is a castle overlay, a show, some banners, and a few commercials.

Wow, you people are just silly.

I had a whole thing typed out and I just deleted it. No matter what your opinions are The Walt Disney Company is VERY, very, very pleased.

how do you consider hcone a failure? Is this your personal opinion or disneys?
I hate it when people say something they have no evidence to back it up. They just say
it to say it.

Ok, maybe I overstated the abysmal failure part, but while the HCOE has pulled in extra crowds, it hasn't pulled in enougth. This explains the sudden drop from advertising and website redesign to drop the promenence of the HCOE. The HCOE was ment to last till October - It shows that the Push is not pulling in people, and they needed to find something else to attract visitors - Cheap Ticket\Hotel Packages.

The problem lies partialy in the fact that WDW has celbrated 25, 100 and 50 within the same decade.

And yes, I think Disneyland should have got the Limelight - WDW is turning 35 this year, why not celebrate that? If remember correctly, the 35th was one of the best Anniversary Celebrations that Disneyland has ever held.

(BTW: Being subjective doesn't mean I'm bashing Disney - I love it just as much as the next person on these forums)
