Does anyone throw out their mugs at WDW once your vacation is over?

Stupid question...

Can you save them and use them again on a future trip?

No...they are only good for the resort you are staying in and only for the length of your trip. At one time they were good forever, but that policy has changed.

I still have my pop half century ones. I use them around the house and always leave em in me room.

Cant wait for my next trip to WDW in December, hopefuly staying at pop half again.

Again, another silly question...

How do they monitor this? Do the ask for ID everytime you walk up to get a soda? Do they check your name against some master list?

No they do not. The message is written on the side of the mug and they rely on the honesty of their guests...many of whom are not honest.

This is an old debate and one that always brings trouble and the thread is either locked or deleted...let your conscience be your guide.

I can't throw away anything Disney. I use the mugs at home and when not in use they sit up on a shelf as decoration (they'll be more prominently displayed when I have my own house someday with a whole room for all my Disney paraphenalia :lookaroun). I see no point in throwing them away and wasting all that money. If you don't want them anymore, sell them on Ebay or give them to another family at the resort before you leave. While both of those are probably technically against the rules, it's better than throwing them out!!

ive used the same mug for 5 years AT THE RESORTS and they've said nothing.

When resorts like the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge never change their mug design, it's really hard to reason with yourself to buy a new one each trip.

Disclaimer: I am not encouraging any mug reusing behaviour, nor am I trying to start an argument.

I mean this in the truly lovingist (if that's a word) way...it won't kill them to give you a free soda. I expect to pay when I am on vacation, and always walk out of the parks with , minimum $50 of merchandise that cost them practically nothing. For Pete's sake, they want $17 for those fans with water bottles on them (here's an aside...I saw a lady walk up to the water spray bottle stand, grab a bottle, liberally squirt herself, and walk away).

Don't get me wrong, I love Disney. But I think if you show up at a resort that you've been to for five consecutive trips, they should maybe kick you a soda, or coffee or whatever.

Throw them away, that's heresy  We use our mugs from Dixie Landings, Wilderness Lodge, Grand Californian, Sea World, Blizzard Beach, Kennedy Space Center, San Diego Zoo, Universal Studios Hollywood, Tivoli Gardens - they are great for the kids, and the slim ones are great for the commute in the car!

I know some of you may say well you can't bring them back on your next visit to WDW but I say instead of throwing them out why not keep them as souviners, or something else? I personally see it as waisting $11.99 if your going to throw out your mugs but if this person wants to do that, then it's not my money so they can do what they want. So what do you all think?

Regular drinks are over $2 so if you stay just 6 days and get one drink a day you are saving money no matter what you do with the mug. You can save even more depending on how much you drink or how long you stay. Also, maybe these people have no place to keep a souviner mug. Have you ever seen a NY apartment?

We personally keep our mugs except for the one my wife left at the airport check-in one time.

I didn't mean to start a mug debate (I am laughing just typing that). I just was curious how this worked.

My wife uses her WL mug every day. It is the perfect size for the car. The Contemporary mugs are just too big and fat to be all that usefull, so it sits in my cubicle reminding me of a better place.

80 days till we get a mug from the Poly.:sohappy:

When I was at PORS at the beginning of the month there was a guest using a Dixie Landings mug so a change in design borders on pointless. In all my trips (40 Disney resort stays in the last 5 years) I have never seen the rules enforced on the mugs. Which begs the question If there is a rule that is completely unenforced why have it? Most of out trips are 1 or 2 night stays so we don't buy the mugs. Over a short stay like that where most of our meals are outside the resort the mugs do not pay off. I won't reuse them because I try to set the best example for my kids that I can. Now if lifetime mugs or even 1 year mugs were put back into circulation, even at an increased cost, I would buy them in a second.
