Does anyone else feel the urgency to visit WDW at this point more than ever?

I feel an urgent need to go everywhere as soon as I think of it! 😄
I'm always planning a trip somewhere.

As for WDW - excited to go during the holiday season for the first time in 2024!

Turkey specifically Istanbul is a foodie paradise . Come hungry and enjoy the sights and sounds of this magical country.
That's one of the main reasons I'd like to go. I love going to different countries and trying the local food. Turkish food is severely underrated and I always love a Turkish coffee.

Plus it'll be nice to eat food that isn't the mass produced slop at some WDW restaurants.

I’d always say Kodak is the best example…a Dow 30 legacy brand that failed to pivot and went down almost immediately…

Sears and GE less so…but cautionary as well…

It’s always the fiduciary duty for the board and execs to adjust in real-time…everytime

It’s a crappy deal…I know…but they are rich so no biggie.

That’s why they have a shelf life…you replace if it’s burnt or ineffective

Disneys main problem is the entire “top shelf” in burbank is expired.
Yes Exactly.... this is where the CEO earns the big bucks, pushing the company in the right direction...

Sears perfect example 100+ years they were strictly mail order, then they went brick and mortar as well.. then ultimately failed because the did not adjust to online sales.... they of anyone should have thrived in a market going back to their original model.

Disney failed in the fact that they jumped into a losing streaming market that cost virtually their entire DVD sale cash cow. They should have held their own and said streaming is nice, but if you want to watch Disney, pixar lucas etc.. movies / content, you must buy the DVD's, they will not be licensed to Netflix or other streamers..

Bottom line: Disney is paying 1 billion (500 million present quarter) a quarter so they people wont buy their DVD's... there's a business model....

Disney is lucky cause they have the resources to turn this around, but they need to pull their heads out of their butts. I don't want to see Mickey standing next to Geoffrey (Toys R Us) in the dust bin.

Good point. Walt cared about his guests. Bob and Bob only care about their legacy and their MONEY.

Folks should go before it gets worse.

It is one of the things that has crossed my mind. I've been going to WDW since 1991. Never had anything but good memories. I would assume our next trip this year will be similar (although we are doing more days at Universal than Disney). My concern is things like Splash Mountain going the way of the dogs. When arguably the most popular ride is chopped up then it makes you realize nothing is sacred or safe. Splash Mountain wasn't Walt's, but Song of the South was. And the TLC and such in the modern movies isn't the same. When you see a movie with Walt's touch in it, you notice the difference, and the same goes for the rides. I know there are creative people in Disney still, ones that mirror Walt's vision and such, but for whatever reason these are not the ones with a lot of say in things anymore as we see.

we’re going in october, & probably take a break after that. without getting too far into it, i’ll just say florida doesn’t feel as welcome as it once was. we’ve enjoyed our trips, but there’s other places to go.

Ehhh…DVDs were a technology change…

They are clutter…which means they were gonna fall to stream/digital anyway

That was beyond Disney control

The other reason for their failure? Lands End, and K-Mart.

I actually don’t think WW84 was as bad as I originally thought?

It’s certainly not “good”…but popcorny enough to make it through

The MCU movies aren’t consistently getting above that low standard either of late

I couldn't get over the casting in Eternals to even bother trying to follow along to the characters stories. And then those cameos at the end were ridiculous. I enjoyed the first Wonder Woman movie (and I watched the Lynda Carter tv shows when I was little). But the 1984 lost me less than 45 minutes into it. The recent MCU movies aren't that appealing to me either, honestly. I watched the continuation of the characters I liked and was just disappointed. To me, it feels like they think the big Hollywood names in these later movies are going to add so much to them and it just falls flat. Black Panther for example - I had such high hopes for that movie after being introduced to the character in Civil War but it fell flat to me because they didn't use the characters well - Angela Bassett and Forest Whitaker, specifically. It made sense after finding out he had cancer and then I was impressed he did that well. And then the sequel was just bad and what they did with Angela Bassett's character just made me mad (the one characters I actually liked!!!). Not quite as terrible as Thor 4 but pretty danged close LOL. I wish I could forget Thor 4 as easily as I could The Eternals :joyfull:

Encanto, coco, zootopia…yes…

Boseman…dead…it turns out. Unfortunate end to that franchise. Second movie should end that.

The farce awakens…a bland reboot that learned nothing from the prequel backlash and made bigger mistakes by trying to overcompensate…started a tailspin. They can’t get Enough people to stream Star Wars shows now…to the point each gets a near immediate “cancelled?” Pub quest from nerddom , the studio is mothballed, they can’t get a toy on the shelf of anything made after about 2005…

And that all started with that phoney box office exercise…

Avatar is a life line they DESPERATELY needed. The one gem that the Fox deal got them. Big game James

But I digress

They are having a really tough go at the box office of late. Is that financial or societal drift? Or creative void/exploitation?

Politics effects travel little if any….

Lack of value for the price and hassles that make it tedious does

Ya been served by the masses, Bob 👍🏻
Altho i do agree politics have little to zero direct effect on travel but their recent political follies to me have caused people to somewhat abandon their product and in turn the desire for kids to say mommy and daddy i wanna go to Disney. I truly believe this has a bigger impact that they want to admit

If that has any tangible effect - it will pass shortly…

What that speaks to is the dying breath of “something”…not a “new movement”
The players involved are essentially done or will be in a matter of a couple of year…

It’s not that they haven’t taken a hit in a certain segment…I’m sure they have…
It’s just more volatile than usual.

It’s that they’ve been spit at for decades for one social reasoning or another…but their internal data shows it doesn’t affect travel there much.

But price and the greater economy? Oh yeah…that sticks to the bone

I think what is more an issue is that they are running their IP aground…it looks rehashed and gimmicky.

That won’t get the parents or the kids very psyched up.

Overall i agree. It comes down to price but also as you say the product. Ive said this before. People dont mind paying up for a product or experience/vacation thats worth it. Disney just is no longer that place in its current state.
