in the photo i see is like the world monorail??

Do you ride it from the hotels?

If not, can anyone suggest a place to stay for a newbie to
disneyland?

thanks:)

Yes, it is like the monorail at WDW, but covers a smaller area. You can take it to/from the Downtown Disney (believe DD is connected to the Disneyland Hotel) to Tomorrowland. Here is a link to the Disneyland site maps, to give you a better idea.

As for where to stay, it really depends on how much you want to spend. The DL hotels are great, but of course you do pay more, so it's a personal choice, the DL hotels do have a lot to offer. If you're more interested in spending less on accomodations, there's a pile of hotels right across the street from Disneyland which are reasonably priced. There are also several in the area which offer shuttle service to the park.

The Monorail only stops near the Disneyland hotel which is like walking from the garden wings at the Contemporary in WDW. The Monorail then travels inside Dsineyland and lets you off in Tomorrowland. There are no stops at the new Grand Californian hotel though it does go through it. In fact our room was only 15-20 feet away from the monorail beam.
Disneyland is not like WDW in that it is located in the middle of the suburbs and there are lots of motels directly across the street from the parks. They are less expensive and a few of them are closer than the Disneyland Hotel though none are closer than the Grand Californian. The Closest motels to the crosswalk over to the parks are...
The Best Western Park Place Inn
The Park Vue Inn
The Carousel Inn and Suites
The Tropicana Inn
The Park Inn
The Desrt Inn and Suites
The Best Inn.
My Two favorites are just a hair farther but still easily walkable...
The Candy Cane Inn ( more of a new Orleans style than candy)
The Howard Johnson Plaza.
These are all places located on Harbor Blvd.

Since the monorail drops you off at Tomorrowland, is there anyway to come through the fronts gates if you are coming from the disneyland hotel. Is there are tram or is walking the only other option.

If you want to enter through the front gates of Disneyland from the Disneyland Hotel(and other two Disney hotels) you have to walk. There is no tram. It is about a 4-7 minute walk depending on your speed.

You can walk through DownTown Disney to the Front Gates of either Park
Disneyland or Disney`s California Adventure
I was there lastnight For the Angels Pep Rally.
After that we went into Disneyland

The funny thing is, before the resort expansion, the stop was considered the Disneyland Hotel stop. The station never moved whatsoever, and there is no further distnance between the monorial stop and the Disneyland hotel then ever used to be.

The Disneyland monorails are much smaller then the WDW ones, and there is no standing room on the Disneyland monorails.

Prior to the expansion, a Disneyland tram was available from the old parking lot (now Disney's California Adventure), but the main reason for this was the hassle of crossing what was then known as West Street (Now Disneyland Drive). Downtown Disney now has a pedestrian bridge that goes over Disneyland Drive, so there is no longer stree crossing required.

The best use of the Disneyland monorail is to either use it as a simple attraction, and remain on at the Downtown Disney stop and return to Disneyland, or use it at night after Disneyland closes to travel to Downtown Disney. Although at Downtown Disney you are not required to exit, you must exit at the Tomorrowland stop.

The monorial also covers some areas of Disney's California Adventure, although makes no stops. (KInd of like how the Epcot monorail enters Epcot, but lets you off outside the main gate)Since boarding the monorail from Downtown Disney (and it was like this before the expansion as well), is basically entering the park, there are turnstiles and you need to present a valid Disneyland passport to ride the monorail from Downtown Disney.

DLMagicDarren is right.....The monorail station was never relocated, it just seems that way since they torn down part of the Disneyland Hotel outer buildings and took out the third pool. The new Monorail Station is very nice. As for hotels to stay at...if you do a resort hotel I still prefer the Disneyland Hotel, the new Grand Californian is beautiful and very nice but I just like the charm of Disneyland Hotel especially after they refurbished this past year. If you select a hotel off site here are a few suggestions: The Candy Cane Inn, Carousel Inn & Suites, Anabella, West Coast Anaheim and Radisson Hotel Maingate. A couple to totally stay away from are: Castle Inn & Suites, The Anaheim Ramada and BW Stovall's Inn (unless) it has been recently renovated.

Have a Disney Day!!!
