It is true for the most part, but, it depends completely on your expectations. If you expect too much, then the answer is no, if you appreciate whatever you get... then you get it all back. You just have to keep in mind that nothing is owed to anyone, not even tomorrow.
I think yes and no. On the one hand life is inherently unfair - there's some things that for some people will be nearly impossible no matter how much they try and others will get those same things without trying at all.
On the other hand life becomes enormously more rewarding when you set out to improve yourself, to stretch your limits, and put in hard work as well as when you think beyond yourself and practice empathy, compassion, and kindness.
As others shared above, sometimes yes, sometimes no. But I think what's most important is that we always have something to strive for, and devote some energy to whatever that may be (regardless of whether we achieve success 100% of the time). Sometimes, just the journey, itself, has its rewards.
In the long run, probably yes. I know I've had days when life reallysucked, but then again I've also had days with more joy than I could ever deserve. I just trust that the end reward will be worth the struggle.
I think if you have a positive attitude and are kind to people you will at least have the good feeling at having done good for others. Life can throw awful obstacles your way. A lot of times the way you attack them and the attitude you maintain can make all the difference.
