I am asking because this is a long time tradition.

This^^^We have two pets in the house, so no tinsel.
The technical term is "craft herpes".We used tinsel for added effect for a 70's themed holiday card photo, and we were still picking it off a couple years later. That stuff is the glitter of tree decor.... it just never goes away.
I am asking because this is a long time tradition.
I answered yes, but truth be told, I haven't put up a tree in about 8 or 9 years and only a few when my grandchildren were little. To me without tinsel it doesn't seem right, like something extremely vital is missing. We have two pets in the house, so no tinsel.
Two of my three daughters are vet techs. They see it 2-3 times a week from Thanksgiving to mid-Januarry.I answered yes, but truth be told, I haven't put up a tree in about 8 or 9 years and only a few when my grandchildren were little. I had pets for years when I lived at home and early years of marriage when the kids were still around and I don't know of any adverse situation with the animals because of the tinsel. Oh, sure every once in a while the cat would have poop with silver streaks in it, but otherwise it never seemed to be all that harmful.
I'm not denying that, but I do have a question. Were the animals brought to the Vet. because they had a problem or because their owners saw them eating the stuff? There is a difference. Two of my three daughters are vet techs. They see it 2-3 times a week from Thanksgiving to mid-Januarry.
In most cases, it was because there was an issue. From their accounts maybe 10% were people that just saw the tinsel after it went through the playdough fun factory. The rest were when they saw blood or the pet had a blockage that required surgery to correct.I'm not denying that, but I do have a question. It is not banned.I didn't even realize that tinsel was still available. I thought it was banned because it was killing some rare bird.
I grew up for a time a dog in the house, but there was tinsel. The dog had no problem with tinsel. We have two pets in the house, so no tinsel.
I do use Garland too. I grew up having having ornaments, lights, garland, and tinsel on the artificial Christmas tree.We used to use tinsel, but it all has to come off the tree if we put it out for the trash or turn it into a tree recycling place. Even if it's a long process, it's fun and festive putting it on...but it's a royal pain taking it off. So, it's garland for us.
