Do you love Sea World?

To be honest, I was pretty dissapointed in the penguin exhibit at Sea World... I was really looking forward to it... but the penguins are all behind glass. The penguin exhibit at my local zoo in my hometown (St. Louis) is much more impressive.

You wouldn't be able to see them in and under the water if it wasn't for the glass

Ok, that's totally not the point I was making... of course you need glass for the under water parts... but the entire exhibit is behing glass.

Here's a visual comparison of St. Louis Zoo penguin exhibit vs. Sea World:

http://www.stlzoo.org/images/PPCoast_visitor.jpg See how there are penguins on both sides of the walkway? And the penguins are actually able to get to one side from another by swimming UNDER you... it's awesome!

Two totally different experiences.

It's colder in St.Louis than it is in Florida. Sea World's exhibit is nice. I'm sure another reason for them being behind glass is because Sea World is concerned about their animal's saftey.

It's also freezing cold in their (Sea World's) exhibit!! I don't think people would enjoy walking through extremely cold temps.

I've been behind the glass with the penguins in Sea World's exhibit. We had to put on huge jackets, gloves, pants. I thought I was going to freeze to death! :dazzle:

Thats why there is glass. Without the glass the outside air would come in and heat things up.

You can take the behind the scenes tour and go into the penguin area. You get to pet the penguins as well.

 You've obviously never been to St. Louis during the summer... the heat (and humidity!) is brutal! And they keep the penguin house around I want to say in the 40's... and trust me... it feels AMAZING to go in there after dying of heat in the zoo! Now in the winter... it's a different story.

You don't think that they do at a zoo? :veryconfu

So how do they keep the temps cool enough for the penguins in St. Louis not to be behind the glass in sort of a refrigerated room? Do they make the whole building very cold so people are freezing while seeing them? Are the penguins from an area where the temps are not as cold as the ones that Sea World so they can live at higher temps?
Now I a curious and will have to look up St. Louis Zoo and see how they manage it.
Even though I went to college in Southern Illinois I have never been to the zoo in St. Louis.

^ I was just guessing thats why Sea World has them behind glass but I really don't know. It would be interesting to see how St.Louis does it. When I was in 8th grade we watched a video about Sea World's penguin encounter but I don't remember much about it.

I love Sea World so much more than I thought I would. I just took a job there, I've also worked for Disney, and I was a little nervous that I wouldn't enjoy being at Sea World as much as I had Disney. I actually enjoy it more. The company is fantastic and amazing to work for. I never realized how much there was to do at Sea World or how big it was.

i absolutley love SeaWorld. Its more calm then Disney, the landscaping is great, and the exhibits are amazing. Disney is and will always be my favorite though.

just down the street

We bought into a time share just a few blocks from the new water park that SeaWorld is building...

We will go... I went as a kid years ago. I liked it then...

I like it, not as much as Disney or Universal. Good park to visit once in the time we're there.

The Shamu show is still excellent no matter if its your first time or 10th time seeing it.

So will I be back on '08? Of course!
