Do you get enough sleep each night during you Disney World vacation?

After doing our recent plans for our next Disney World trip coming up thing december... I realized that we are out until very late each night and up very early each morning. It limits our sleep each to about 5.5 hours each night. We usually use the motto of that we can sleep when we get home :)

I'm curious if everyone does that or do you put sleep up as a higher priority on your vacation?

Our lack of sleep starts out on "Disney Eve." The night before we leave we're so excited that we only get about 3-4 hours of sleep. Our first night at WDW we're so excited to be there that we have trouble falling asleep again! If we're lucky, we get 5-6 hours of sleep the first night. As you can see, after only 8-10 hours over 2 days we exist on pure adrenaline. By mid-vacation, though, we settle down and usually get 7 hours a night. :snore:

52 days, 6 hours, 45 minutes...

Before my daughter was born my wife and I would stay out late most nights at WDW and get up early and we were ok. With a kid doing that you are playing with fire. For us at least I would rather have a shorter day with a more fun feeling than try to stay out late and deal with a tired toddler.

In my normal life (if you can call it that) I only get about 5 1/2 to 6 hours sleep at night but I am not out in the hot sun walking around all day either. It is different when you are on the go all day.

Normally I catch a red eye flight so that I can spend a whole extra day at the parks which puts me off to a bad start in the sleep department. This year, I am taking it easier, no red eyes and just relaxing the first day.....so I will let you know which works better. :snore:

If I get one minute less than 10 hours of sleep at night I am grumpy!!

I try to make sleep a priority in my planning. I have us getting in by about 10 every night and sleeping till about 7 or 8 in the morning.

The rest of my family usually gets to bed by 11 and wakes up a little before 7 when at WDW. Thats pretty close to what they usually get here at home. I on the other hand have a tough time getting to sleep. I usually worry about the plan for the next day and whether or not everybody is going to come back happy. Almost the whole planning of the trip, from accomodations to restaurants to ride order is done by me so when something goes wrong I take it pretty hard. I also hate trying to sleep in hotel beds so I usually end up going to sleep at 1 and toss and turn until 6. Our last trip was better because we stayed at a house and they were nice, soft, normal beds and I had us running so much that I was exhausted. The plans worked flawlessly though, even though waits at MK were up to 2 hours at lunch we were out of there of there by 2.

you need to relax more...
they should be happy...they're in Disney. If not...that's on them...

and I've never waited 2 hours on anything.

Get up early...get to the park before opening...hit Splash, Big Thunder...then hit Space...get to the middle and work your way back...

All the majors are hit...go back to the hotel...lounge, get some rest...then head back in...pick up the rides you missed...

try http://www.touringplans.com/

explore the site...you can find a ride order plan for each park...

without paying

I would not say I make sleep a priority, but am usually am pretty tired after the fireworks are done. I look forward to getting back to my room, having a shower and usually sleep very well. I then look forward to getting up by about 8, having another shower, a bit of breakfest and heading right back to the parks to do the same thing all over again.

I get grouchy when overtired, and so does the rest of the family! That said, I'd just play things by ear. When the troops are overtired, head out of the parks for a swim, nap, break, whatever. I wouldn't give up fireworks in favor of an extra two hours' sleep - UNLESS you're just plain too tired to enjoy it! Remember, it's a VACATION, not a marathon. ;)

Interesting topic.
We usually sleep so well at Disney because we are so tired by the time we get to bed. We are early risers at home, but we rarely make it to park openings in the mornings when we are there-except for character breakfast day-because we like to go out in the evenings & we like our sleep a little too much.

Plan a Day of Rest

If we can afford it, my wife and I usually plan "A Day of Rest" done usually between two parks. So we do two parks then rest and then do two parks. We usually sleep in on that day and get back lost sleep and then do a water park or head to Downtown Disney or even resort hop. When we can't plan these day of rests in we usually zombie it out until we leave and sleep on the flight home. That's a good six hours!
