Yes! I would love to just pack up and go too! Infact, I could be packed and ready in less than an hour, lol!
We did get to do that in 2009. We went in May, and planned a quick trip that November. It was so much fun and totally worth it!

Yeah, I posted this before. Our last trip was right after my second cancer surgery in two years. When I got the diagnosis I said to my wife; "screw it we're going to Disney." She said, Okay. I really think it was the best Disney trip we ever had. I have an appointment with my oncologist tomorrow. Not sure what to wish for? :ROFLOL:

jtlevis, you have permission to go any darn time you like!!! Go with the feeling of "you never know what tomorrow may bring" or go in celebration! (Good luck tomorrow...sending prayers your way)

I have to admit, I am fortunate to be able to go at least once a year, sometimes twice and although I sometimes second guess myself, I do just book it and go anyway. I'd rather give my money to Disney now when I can enjoy it than some darn nursing home when I'm drooling on myself!

There was one time where the family wanted to go but we just didn't have the money. We booked it anyway. 6 months away though. It forced us to save for the trip and gave us time to do so.

I 'get up and go' quite often, but my living situation is probably quite different than yours. :p 18 years old, living on my own, 30 minutes from the world, annual pass... can't get much better. If you can get away with it, I would say just go for a quick trip... it can be a much needed relief from the stresses of life!

Wow, my god, I hope your visit with your Doctor tomorrow goes well..And I do see how a visit to Disney can help your emotional well being...Its good to get away from reality, no matter what is going on in life and go to the land of make believe.

Yeah I guess so!!!
We do go every year, we just went this past August, and we are AP and DVC members....I can't complain, I just would to get up and go....

God I would LOVE to live 30 mins from the world...That right there I would save in airfare alone......Quite pricey for a family of 4!

OH yes. For my part, I had already booked a trip to WDW for December when the news about Avatarland came out. It ticked me off so much I considered cancelling. Would have saved me about $1500.

But the way I look at it is: yes, stooges are running the company now. The parks may soon not be Disney parks anymore, but parks with a little Disney in them mixed with frog puppets and stormtroopers and hulks and creepy blue cat people. But maybe it's best to go now, while it's still worth going, while Walt Disney World is still Walt Disney World, and not yet the Walt Disney World version of Universal.

So the heck with it - I'm going.

That's the dream - right when I finish grad school I want to live in the Orlando area and buy my annual pass...and go to the parks WAY too often :)

WDWCandice and Dixiegirl, thanks for the good thoughts. I said when I got my first diagnosis that I wasn't going to let cancer control my life. I'll do what I have to do but I'm not going to give up living. Anyway, there most certainly is another trip to the World in my future. It is the most healing place I know.

I couldn't agree with you more. I definitely believe in the healing power of Disney. :) I hope that your appointment tomorrow goes well and that you and your wife can plan a celebratory trip back to the happiest place I know.

This very reason why the economy is in a mess right now. I'm glad you went to the world, I'm sure everyone here would love to be there now but just booking and worrying about paying later is way too risky.

NO the reason the economy is the way it is is because people CHARGE the trip instead of saving for it like the the person said they did.

Well we were already in Orlando so I don't know if this counts but on the day we were suppose to leave and head home after our 7 day WDW trip we said screw it and bought a day pass and spent 4 magical hours in the Magic Kingdom!

We went all spontaneous in March of 2009. My daughter had spring break from college and for about 5 months before she kept telling me she was going to go somewhere with her friends. Well, since I knew none of them had any money, lol, that this was not going to happen. Sure enough, about 10 days before break she was all upset because no one had any money to go anywhere.
So I felt bad as it was her senior year and gave her a choice of visiting family in Arizona (cheap as we stay at my moms, only pay airfare) or going to WDW, where we had some days left on previous passes and my disney visa points would pay for POP. No brainer, off we went to WDW. Made all the reservations about 5 days before we left.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to go multiple times a year, and they're all coordinated around school breaks. Being a teacher kind of eliminates a lot of the spontaneity of the "drop everything and go" trips.

The closest I ever came was this year when I decided about two weeks before Labor Day to spend the long weekend down there. I hatched the plan during a boring staff meeting and when we broke for lunch, I was able to find cheap airfare, got an AP rate at the Pop Century, and I was set to go in less than 30 minutes!

Can I say that right there, those two sentences are very inspiring!
I work in a salon and watched clients go through diagnosis and into remission. To see what they go through , and still come back with a smile on their face and with the same attitude as you( and I've seen them at their worst)...As I said to one of my clients, it is very heroic to me anyway what they've gone through and still come out with a smile on, even when I'm sure when they really did'nt feel like it.

I don't as much anymore because of the economy but I've done it before. I live about 3.5 ours away so it's not a bad drive. We don't decide on a Friday morning to go, but we will decide early in the week to go because the kids have a long weekend. We get seasonal passes, so our tickets are usually paid for. It's just getting a hotel and some food. We take snacks with us and it saves alot. One thing I do most of the time is not tell the kids til the last minute. They've been there plenty of times but they still act like they've never been. I'll tell them a day or two ahead only. I told them a while back because there was more planning than usual for this one and one of them is driving me nuts.
