Do we have to use the yellow baggage tags to use DME?

We are arriving Friday afternoon for our first trip to WDW staying on site. I have already made the DME reservations and have already received our yellow baggage tags. But I guess I'm still too old school and like to have control of my luggage and with me at all times. My question is can we just not put the yellow tags on our bags, collect them ourselves at luggage claim, and just take our luggage with us to the DME bus?

On our last trip we arrived late and had to get our own luggage. It was a bit of a pain lugging the bags from the main building to the back corner of Coronado Springs at 11 pm. Our vote is for the luggage service every time!!

As said above, just leave the tags off and collect the bags yourself. When you get to DME just scan ur band and wait for the bus then the driver will put them in the bus for you. You'd be surprised how many ppl choose this Vs the debt to your room route.

Yeah I think any flight after 10pm you're basically on your own with luggage through DME

We go one step further -- we always use DME transportation, but never use luggage transfer. (I do keep the yellow tags with me, just in case we're ever forced to gate-check something because the overhead bins are full, but it's never happened yet.) We travel carryon-only (a week's clothing and sundries in a single 21" rollaboard per person, with room to spare -- it can be done!). No need to pay to check bags, or to spend any time at the airport getting them tagged and on their way, and no worries about them or their contents getting damaged or lost at any point.

(For the record, I've never heard anything about Disney's ME luggage transfer that would make me nervous about using it -- it seems to have a pretty superlative record -- but because of some terrible experiences with airline luggage handlers in the past, and because we've mastered the art of packing light so we don't feel like overburdened mules while moving through the airport, we actually feel more relaxed during our travels if we keep our bags with us.)

Personally this is one of the benefits I look forward too with DME transportation. I hate waiting for the luggage, it seems when ever we arrive it turns out to be break time for the luggage handlers. This gives me peace of mind that we can head off to the resort and begin our vacation.
