Do people actually cancel their dining reservations?

Hi -

Just tried to book a couple of dining "hot spots" for our trip, and was unsuccessful. However, the reservation specialist encouraged me to keep trying back, as "people do cancel". Speaking only for myself, I know that if I made other plans, I (even with the best of intentions) would completely forget to cancel. Do people actually take the time to cancel a reservation if they know they can't make it? I'd love your input on this.

Thanks!

Absolutely.

I have only had to once, but I made a point of calling. Knowing how hard it is to get in most places, it's the least I can do for others.

Yes, they definitely do! I just cancelled a weeks worth because we had to change our trip dates. I would never just "not cancel;" it only takes a minute to cancel them. There have been several people who have said they call while they are IN WDW and have gotten ADR's at some of the best places....sometimes even the day of! So definitely call back or wait until you are there and call. I've found if you are flexible with your times, you can usually get on just about anywhere. There are a few that book solid, though.

Yes Guest often do cancel their un-need dine reservations so availablitity is constantly changing.

Also, to be fair to all, Guests are not permitted to book two or more reservations for the same date, meal period, and party size. If an Agent retrieves or notes an existing dine booking and the Guest is making a new booking for the same date and time range, the Agent is required to cancel the existing booking.

We cancelled one of ours on our trip last May - I think most people would, knowing how hard it is to get some of the busier places.

last year we had to cancel our res at the grand floridians 1900 park fair because we were at epcot and where having a good time and noticed we'd never get there intime so we canceled and went to dt to rain forest cafe. and yeah itsonly fair to cancel if you can. i wanted to get into le celler last week and tried for the whole week prior and couldn't get in, on the day we were goin to epcot i called in the morning and was able to get in. someone canceled and it was the only opening for the day so it does help to cancel ,for the others trying to get in to that place

I've called when I am there and either changed or cancelled reservations. Getting something the day of may not be the easiest, but I've done it, if you are flexible.

I always give the curtesy of canceling - some people are just no shows....

Also, you can try, but it's not always sucessful to try at the restaurant itself - maybe lunch is easier... the popular restaurants will be hard to just walk into.

Think about who you are asking, first of all. The people on this forum are the truly die-hard Disney fans who are looking for an online community with which they can share their joys and experiences all things Disney.

If you want to know the truth-- I would guess than anywhere between 65-75 percent of people do not cancel their reservations. The peopl here are exceptional Disney guests and I doubt they correctly respresent the whole of WDW visitors.

It just seems like the polite thing to do, assuming of course you know you won't be able to make it. We were late to one PS last trip, and we felt awful about it. Luckily, everything was fine, but still, it's kindness like that that merits a call when you must cancel.

I know for a fact that they do.....I had to yesterday. I'm in the process of booking reservations for certain places we'd like to eat at, and when I discovered that The Brown Derby costs 2 meals on the dining plan instead of one, I cancelled my existing ADR and booked another. It just makes sense to do that because you never know when you may want a reservation and it happens to be held by someone who ends up not going or forgetting about it and hadn't cancelled it.

We do cancel ours if we find out we cannot use it and we have benefitted by this when someone cancelled a Hoop-de-doo Revue ressie and we were able to scoop it up.

There have been two times I can remember that we didn't, but they were definitely NOT for "hot spots" (and it was VERY last minute that we decided to do something else. As in, we were in the park and said Eh, we'd rather go to ________ instead) I would suppose most people do cancel, given the amount of time people spend planning these trips.

My family was heartbroken when we couldn't get ressies for CRT when we last went. So I called every day for 2 months and one day, because someone took the time to cancel, we got in and had an absolute BLAST! So, yes, people do call in cancellations, and thank God they do!

I make/cancel ressies all of the time as i try to rearrange my schedule for my trip.....BUT it 'bit me in the butt' yesterday, I cancelled ressies for Hoop and booked for the Luau, after reading reviews of that Luau I decided that I would rather do Hoop, called Disney back and they were booked full.
