Do not expect to Rope Drop riding a Disney Bus

Speedwalk?
Before they changed to an in park rope drop (years ago) when the A&E M&G was first opened I watched a man vault the low fence in the center of town square with a 2 - 3 yo on his shoulders then sprint off down mainstreet.
Shortly after they started walking the crowd down the street with a rope barrier.

eta; Oh, there were suits milling around by the barbershop, they caught the whole thing live
My running days are over, however seeing as I’m over 6ft, my stride on speed walking is considerable; I’ve been allowed into Peter Pans Flight at DL traveling at near the same speed as people running (while they were turned away and told to go to the back of the line.)

Walking=one foot in contact with the pavement at all times

Running=At times in your stride neither foot is on the ground

Running is dangerous, as it’s harder to stop, while walking it’s much easier to slow your stride quickly.

I would say that this is generally true but, as with everything having to do with Disney transportation, is very much a YMMV kind of thing. On both of our last two trips (October and January), the first bus sometimes got us to MK before they had started letting people who walked from Contemporary through security.
This was our experience in December.

So what’s the best plan for rope drop currently? Is the general consensus to take a ride share or walk (if you can)? It seems like the buses are a guaranteed way to not get there for opening. I’ll be staying at Coronado Springs next month and I’m just considering taking a ride share every morning to get to the parks as early as possible since the park hours are reduced.

Or rent a car.

Does anyone have recent experience driving to MK for rope drop? We would generally prefer to drive but have seen conflicting reports on other boards about the buses getting you there sooner (or at the same time).

So what the current consensus on when to get to the bus stops at your resort for rope drop? I’ve heard mixed signals now and hearing people can take the bus and get there in time for rope drop.

Last Tuesday we drove and got to the parking booths a little before 8am for a 9am opening. Probably like 6-8 cars ahead of us in our line. Were held at the booths until I want to say 8:15ish? Took the ferry. We were in MK and to the end of Main Street by 8:55am.

We stayed at Pop last week.

MK opened at 9, we got to bus stop at 7:20 and was on the 4th bus. Was able to walk on Seven Dwarfs and Peter Pan. I would suggest getting in line at 7 for a 9 am MK opening.

AK- Open at 8. Got in line at 6:40 and on bus at 6:45. Front of park at 7:05. We walked in and literally no one was around us. We were the first bus there. Got to Pandora and 3 people were in line in front of us.

Epcot- Open at 11. Went to skyliner line at 9:05. Got off at CBR like everyone has to but then walked to Riviera. Skyliner starts running at 9:55

HS- open at 9. Got in like for skyliner at 7:40 and the line was super long. It moved fast though. Arrived at 8:20 to HS. I would get in this line by 7 next time. Walked on to Mickey and Minnies and Millennium Falcon

The parks all opened an hour before listed park opening times. We waited in Zero lines to get into MK. It is just how long does it take you to walk from bus to the ride line.

I should have mentioned that ALL the parks opened at least an hour before listed opening times.

I’ll be at the parks next week. Thinking of taking ubers instead of buses in the morning. The buses right now just sound like they are too iffy and could be really backed up due to limited seating on each bus (they don’t pack people like sardines anymore).

Anyone have any experience rope dropping over the past few busy spring break weeks?
