Do I make 2 reservations?

We are planning (with fingers crossed) to visit WDW Dec. 8-15. I have decided to take advantage of the free dining offer (which has to be booked by TODAY) but it is only available for check-in on Dec. 10. I assume I have to book 1 reservation for Dec. 10-15 and then another Dec 8-10? Will it matter if I book the free dining part now and the one for the first 2 days later? I am probably going to do a "room only" reservation for the first part and discounts for those usually come out around Oct. I will be staying at the same resort for both parts-will they try to leave us in the same room-is there something I should do when booking or before arriving to make that more likely? Thanks for any advice!

I'd suggest either booking through Kingdom Konsultants, who have the know-how to take care of what you need, or phone to book bothe now and ask that they mark the two bookings as connected. They'll tell you there's no guarantee that you'll stay in the same room from one to the next, but I've never had to move. Then when the new discounts come out, call as soon as you possibly can and ask to have the discount applied to the room-only portion. No guarantee it will be available for your dates and room class, but if not, they might be able to switch your free dining to a class of room that is available for the discount.

Ultimately, it's a lot easier to let KK do it. If you give them advance instructions on what you want and what changes you're willing to make to get it, they'll bend over backwards to make it happen or get as close as they can. I do all my own bookings, but I've been at this for a while. When I was a novice, I used KK and they never steered me wrong.

Have had this very same problem before as I'm sure many others have. You just book 2 separate reservations and it will be fine to book the room only reservation at a later date. I always precheck in online, so the morning my second reservation started I just went to the check in desk and told them I was checking in for my second reservation. They took my old keys to the world and issued me new ones with my park tickets and dining plan on it. No changing rooms or anything. The whole process took about 5 minutes.

here's the catch. we check in the 8th also. decided against the free dining to hope for room discount because of the ticket issue. if you plan to go the parks the 8th and 9th, you will need to buy a two day ticket for those days. then you will need to include a ticket for the free dining package. so you pay for the first two days (the most expensive) twice. even if you only get a one day ticket with this package and get a bigger ticket to mainly use, that first day is the most expensive. you are still paying for two separate tickets.
now, if you go frequently enough, you could just buy a ticket for your whole length of stay to start using the 8th, and keep the one day pass from the package and next time you go back, take it and upgrade it to a multi-day pass. but you have to plan to be going back in a reasonable length of time.

There is no need to buy additional tickets for the room only reservation. Simply buy the tickets you will need with the free dining package, then pick them up early at any Guest Relations location. Package tickets can be picked up a maximum of 3 days before the package starts.

So OP, if you will be in the parks for 7 days, buy a 7 day ticket with your free dining package starting Dec. 10th, but pick them up when you arrive Dec. 8th. Hope this helps.

I thought of this "catch" also right before I booked!! I had planned to just add those first days onto the tix in the 2nd reservation. I was going to skip the dining on that first part anyway. I ended up just getting a 5 day hopper. That will cover Mon-Fri. We will arrive late on Sat. 8th and would usually not go into parks anyway. We are planning to hit Sea World this trip so I am going to try to go there Sun and do MVMCP that evening. I had already planned out our days and made our dining reservations so I will have to rearrange some things, but hopefully it will work out ok this way. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for that info! I think I have planned (or replanned?) around the need to add more park tix days, but I'm not totally sure my plan is the best one yet. It's nice to know I can pick up the tix early if needed. Hopefully I will have time to review my original plans and meals and if I decide not to rework them I will just call and add a few more days onto that free dining reservation! Thanks!

When I first started thinking about another WDW trip, I vowed I would use KK. In the past I have planned our trips out and it has been part of the fun and excitement for me. I am absolutely an OCD control-freak nut and I looooved mapping out our days. I'm not sure if it's my age catching up with me, or the WDW choices growing so much, but it seems more complicated and overwhelming these days!!! My problem is that I am soooo unsure about whether this trip will happen or not due to job situations. When the 180 day dining mark came up, I just went ahead and made the ressies I hoped for even though I had no trip booked. Now I'm still unsure but the free dining offer was going to expire and I couldn't pass it up. But I would feel so incredibly GUILTY if I were making someone else do those things for me and then just couldn't go. (I do guilt oh-so-very-well) So, I am on my own again (and am actually enjoying it) but my next trip will be a WDW/Cruise combo vacation and it will be KK all the way for that because I am clueless!!!Thanks for the advice though and by the way, I always enjoy your trip reports!!!!

Do not worry at all about frequent changes or cancellations. We deal with it all the time and we dont mind! We know that things change. :)

Thanks, Tammy! It probably does bother me more than it would you all. Changes in plans do not bother me as much as total cancellation-and this trip is soooo iffy(but keeping fingers and toes crossed). I get so stressed out just calling to cancel with the Disney Travel people. As soon as I hang up, I feel like they put up a pic of me and throw darts at it all week! Obviously OCD and control issues aren't my only issues :)! I will have to get over that when I do a cruise though because I have no idea where to start for that one!! Also, I figure the more we all let you help us, the more you get to visit the Disney properties, the more trip reports you write and the more awsome pics you share with us. Win-win all the way!!
