Do Cast Members Get Annoyed....

I'd probably get bashed for the title of this thread, but hey.... :)

Laughing Place has listed its Top 50 quotes from WDW. Of course, my most favorite quote is at #1. For Disney fans, many (if not all) of these are very familiar quotes, and they tend to know them word for word. So what I want to know from CMs is, do you get annoyed if the guests actually say along with you some of these lines? I know, for example, that many guests would say along with the CM on the Jungle Cruise the "backside of water" line. Is this something the Jungle Cruise CM finds annoying? If he/she does, I won't do it again next time I'm on it. :)

Yes, it's completely annoying to the CM and other guests. This behavior runs rampant at DLR and is generally hated by anyone who doesn't partake.

I'm a seasonal CM and have great respect for my fellow magic makers, especially the full-timers who make it a career. When I bring guests to the park I enjoy watching the on-stage performance of these Cast Members. However, when a CM is 'phoning-in' their performance, it irritates me to no end. I'll never embarrass the CM, but jumping on their punch line is a good way to get them back in the game. Everyone gets tired, but when you perform you must always give the impression that there is no other place or other thing you would rather be/do then what you are right then. Once with my brother and friends (all adult) on the JC, as we entered the dark Temple, my brother began to hum the theme from 'Indiana Jones' soon the whole boat was 'singing' the notes, until we finally exited the Temple. The CM just listened with a grin, silent, said "Good job!" and proceeded back into his spiel, without missing a beat. So for the frequent guest, don't ruin the jokes for everyone else. But do interact and be part of the magic.

It's annoying to no end, and in many cases (like voicing over the script) it is flat out rude to everyone around you. But, you only have to have enough money to get in. You don't have to prove you were raised with manners. :brick:

Jungle Cruise definitely stands out as the most likely attraction where guests "Steal their thunder"....However I can say that by giving a little comment that informs the skipper you are a DEFINITE veteran, their performance level tends to skyrocket. This is what I have seen (I try to ride this ride at least twice every visit, which occurs about once a week), all in all..I can imagine that certain things can get extremely annoying, but not as bad as those guests who are rude and like to belittle the CM's in order to appear like a big dog in front of their friends.

Any guest that feels the need to say the words along with any attraction is really annoying to me. All they care about is the enjoyment they get out of it, not realizing that it ruins the experience for the people around them.

I actually got into an argument about this with my physics class last year. He was showing the video of the recent trip to WDW he and some class members took and I noticed they were saying the words to several different attractions. When I said something about ruining it for other guests I got ripped apart by the girls in my class who had gone on the trip. I decided it was best to just drop it after that.

I can't recall a time when this has ever happened to me while on an attraction (and JC would stick out as the attraction where it's most likely to happen). I do know when we train people for working at our IT Help Desk we make sure they know not to finish a customer's thought for them, even if they think they know the answer to the problem. It makes the customer feel less important, and makes you come across as cocky. While not completely analogous, I would compare the situations; those who say the lines before/along with the Cast Member are stealing their thunder.

It's annoying when you are in the HM stretch room when someone says "there's always my way" a few seconds before the real narration.

It is almost like the person/persons have a point to prove....

Big deal...you have ridden before!

Although, not being a castmember, i feel very sad that i cannot answer the question at hand fully...

...but if it's any help, after reviewing that top 50 list you've posted, I am morer than Giddy to know that my favorite Muppetvision 3D quote made it into the top 20 spot at number 16.

"It's called a 'Salute to All Nations, but Mostly America.'" - Sam the Eagle, MuppetVision 3D

I definitely agree with you, I'm a CM, but I don't work in attractions. But in every deparetment...we like to know when you're a regular...we try and boost the show a bit for you, and make it all the more magical compared to last time.
