Do any studios sleep 5?

We are at the point where our boys prefer to sleep apart rather than being "Squished" on the sleeper sofa. I know that at AKV, if we rent a 1 BR, there is a pull out chair in the living room but do you know if any studios have that option too?

Just to be clear - We DO NOT want to put 5 people in a 4 person unit, just to separate the 2 kids into a sofa and day bed type arrangement!!

THanks!!

Not that I know of. The listed occupancy for the studios are 4 people. 2 on the bed and 2 on the couch. I think OKW has studios with 2 beds, but no couch. Some of the newer resorts (AKV and BLT) have the extra sleep chair in the 1 bedroom making the occupancy 5 instead of 4.

I think OKW will allow it, but it is my understanding that it is only allowed for DVC owners.
We are buying DVC with a resale contract so SOON I will be an official DVC member (As long as we pass ROFR) . I just wondered how many different studio rooms at different resorts would allow the boys to sleep in separate beds to give me more peace from fighting over who is taking up more space!!! We would never have more than 4 in a room, I would LOVE to option of a pull out chair/bed or daybed too...It looked like in someones boardwalk villas pics they posted, I saw a daybed in a studio>..

Now that you mention that about the day bed it sounds familiar. @ParentsOf4 would probably know the answer.

4 plus one child under the age of three is the maximum occupancy for all DVC studios, whether you're staying on points or cash. There are no day beds in the studios. It's either 2 queen beds (OKW) or a queen and a sofabed (all other resorts)

I think there were once a few BWV studios with a deacon's bench that they'd allow 5 in, but I'm pretty sure that's no longer the case. And at any rate, it was just a wooden bench with a thin pad on it, the kind of thing you'd sit on to tie your shoes. In a pinch, you could put a toddler on it to sleep, and some people did, but it was in no way a day bed.

The sofa cushion thing works well with smaller kids. Some people also pack an air mattress, or buy one at Walmart on the way in from the airport. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a Studio on property with sufficient square footage to have adequate sleeping surfaces for 5 people who are all over three feet tall.

My suggestion: Order some lumber once you're there, and build some bunkbeds. I don't believe there's a specific provision in the contract saying: "Guests/Owners shall not take hammer in hand to construct vertical sleeping surfaces." Of course, that may be implied, I suppose. And the sawdust would really make a mess of things. Maybe that's not such a good idea.

The benches are still present in a handful of BoardWalk Studios, but there is no way to guarantee such a room will be assigned upon arrival. And the max occupancy is still capped at 4 plus 1 under the age of three.

Agree. And referring back to the original post, if the boys in question are large enough to not want to share a bed, neither is going to be able to sleep on this bench.

Should you decide to go that route, please place a sign on the door asking, "Please pardon our dust while we refurbish this room for your future enjoyment".

I have an upcoming trip and my little family of four will be staying at the BWV. I have stayed here before, and I remember (and have photo evidence) there being a day bed in the room, in addition to a queen-sized bed and double-sized sleeper sofa; it will fit up to 4 adults, 1 child under the age of 3 (in a crib), and another child who will fit on the day bed. These type of rooms are far and few between, and cannot be guaranteed. A couple of days ago, remembering this "day bed" info, finances were working out in such a way that my DH and I contemplated on inviting my 17 y.o. sister....buuuut, before getting her hopes up, I wanted to check with DVC reservations on the exact policy for the number of bodies "permitted" in a studio...here's what the CM was told by the attending manager:

"Studio villas will allow 5 people, however, linens and towels will only be provided for 4 people. If you want to put 5 people on the reservation, so everyone has a room card, you cannot add the DDP. If you want to add the DDP, then the 5th person cannot be added to the room reservation...thus, that 5th person will be considered a 'Day Guest' upon check-in, and cannot participate in the DDP, nor use resort amenities."

I'm not sure if this can be applied to ALL DVC villas, so call DVC reservations first to get the resorts' policy. For example, I can attest that a studio at BLT would be too tight to fit a cot in. To be on the 'safe' side, book a 1-bedroom if you can.

Yes, it's great for families of 5. VGF is supposed to accept reservations for stays beginning on October 23.

The DVC member website describes Studios as follows:
  • Sleeps 4
  • 1 queen-size bed & 1 full-size sleeper sofa
  • Kitchenette
  • Full bath
If I try to make a DVC reservation at BWV for 5, even with 3 year-old, I receive the following message:

The room type selected cannot accommodate your travel party. Please make another selection.

I certainly have stayed at BWI rooms with a decent size day bed that sleep 5.

Oh, I know the website will not let you book a studio for 5 people...you need to book it for a party of 4 online and then call the reservation line to add the 5th person, with the stipulations I noted. However, if you call DVC reservations directly, the CM should be able to take care of the number of people, but once again, with the stipulations I noted. I talked to that CM, as she conversed with her manager, about this particular situation in great length. I repeated what she told me, back to her, 3 times, just to make sure there was no miscommunication. I assume that this little "nugget" of information is on a "need to know basis" and isn't freely advertised as it could confuse guests.

The new grand Floridian rooms will sleep 5 with a pull down bed for the 5th person.
