How does it work to get from the airport to your resort? Do you have to take a taxi/car? Shuttle?? Or do they offer the DME for onsite guests?

I concur with NemoRocks. I have used Disneyland Express a couple of times. Easy and more comfortable than one of the vans.

If you're smart enough and lucky enough to fly into John Wayne Airport, just jump into a taxicab outside of baggage claim. You zip 15 minutes up the freeway and are stepping out in front of your Disneyland area hotel 20 minutes after you walked out of baggage claim. Taxi fare is about 40 bucks, which is more expensive than the Gray Line buses, but worth the convenience for most people.

If you are unlucky enough to have to fly into LAX (we will pray for you), then the Gray Line buses are your best bet. Much cheaper, and not much slower than a taxicab from Los Angeles County all the way down to Orange County.

When I flew into SNA (John Wayne) we used the taxi and it was fast and easy. When I flew into LAX we used Karmel Shuttle service, and it was fast and easy too. It was guaranteed that there would only be 2 total stops and we happened to be the first stop. We also flew in later and traffic wasn't a problem.

I've used the Super Shuttle. The only problem I have is that I never reserve it in advance, so I often have to wait 15 minutes to a half-hour for one that's going to Anaheim to arrive. Going back to the airport was much easier and always on time. and round trip is like $30.

This was probably asked by someone a while ago....but why is there not a DME type of service run by Disney for DisneyLand Resort Guests?
Is it because the majority of the visitors are mostly locals, or that there are several airports in the area for people to arrive in making it not cost-effective? In CA you have three to four arrival point choices ( LA, Orange, Long Beach, etc..)while there is mostly one choice in Florida ( MCO)
is there maybe another valid reason?
Less official Resorts to transport people maybe factor into it?

Just curious.

I just find it a little odd that Disney has not set up some kind of *official* transportation service with the local airports after all these years.

Most of those reasons play into it; multiple international airports serving one of the largest megalopolises on the planet where 20 Million people live within 90 freeway minutes of Disneyland.

The other big reason is.... there are only 3,000 Disney-owned hotel rooms at the Disneyland Resort. The other 15,000 hotel rooms in the Resort area are off-property and run by non-Disney companies. It's not worth it to only serve 3,000 hotel rooms from about a half dozen different airports. (LAX, John Wayne, Long Beach, Ontario, Burbank Bob Hope)

Plus, Disney knows that the magic of Southern California is getting off Disney property after a few days and taking in all the natural wonders and man-made cultural icons found in SoCal. In Florida, Disney wants to keep you on property, and even if you go off Disney property in Florida all you will find in Orlando are a few other theme parks, a lot of tacky tourist traps, and swampland.

There's no real point to leaving Disney property in Florida. In Southern California, Disneyland is just the tip of the iceberg.

Thank you TP for your response.
Makes perfect sense, exspecially regarding the wonders of CA vs. Swampland.
I love LOVE LOVE visiting CA....and totally agree- DL is indeed just the wee tip of the iceberg!
