DME Baggage Question - Worried...

My flight times on AirTran have changed one again. I have a layover in Atlanta. However, the time between my original flight and my connection flight is only about 40 minutes. I am already telling myself that I am going to miss my connection flight out of ATL to MCO. So my question is this - DME will expect for me to be on my original flight to MCO (the flight that my documents state). However, I will likely be flying out on another flight. How will DME know to get my bags off the new flight? Should I call or tell the DME counter agents? I am a nervous wreck now.

Standard connection time in ATL is 30mins so as long you are departing the same terminal you should be ok. If your worried that you won't make your connection call the airline. If they made the schedule change they will work with you to switch you to different flights.

I am going to call AirTran right now.

All AirTran said was that I should make my connection flight. We will see.

However, my question still stands about DME. What happens about my baggage if I am confirmed on another connecting flight?

The yellow luggage tag Disney gives you indicates to the baggage handlers at MCO that it is going to Disney. Disney doesn't just go around looking for luggage headed to a resort...it's routed there. If you have the yellow tag, it'll eventually make its way to your hotel.

If your bags have the yellow DME tags on them, DME will get them to your resort regardless of what flight they arrive on. If, for some reason, you arrive on a different flight than your bags DME will track them with the airline you were scheduled to be on for you.

When you check in with DME, they will ask you how many checked bags you had. If the right number of bags don't come off your flight, they'll start trace action on your behalf and often the bag will be recovered and delivered without you ever knowing there was an issue.

40 minutes may not seem like a lot of time.

But in May 2007, our flight was late arriving into Atlanta, and our flight out was leaving in 15 minutes. We had to go either 2 or 3 terminals away to get to it. We didn't think we were going to make it, let alone have our bags make it from our plane to the next one in time.

Well, the terminal buildings are all lined up in a row, with an underground rail system running between. A little huffing it, and we made it. And suprisingly, so did our bags.

We didn't use DME... so I can't give any input there. But with 40 minutes, you should be able to make your connection.

Heck, my first flight going into BWI on Southwest was late due to a long wait for takeoff. My connection dwindled from 50-55 minutes to 15. I presume that my DME-tagged bag made it onto my connecting flight, because it was delivered to my room about an hour after I checked into my hotel. (True, I spent about 20-25 minutes grabbing lunch in the airport and looking for a shop with sandals that I forgot, but I got right on the DME bus when I went downstairs)

Yeah, you should be okay in Atlanta. The legal minimum connection time at Hartsfield-Jackson is 35 minutes, so you should be fine. As another poster mentioned, there is an underground train system that connects all six concourses and the trains run frequently. I worked for Delta Air Lines at one point, so I became pretty familiar quite quickly with Atlanta's airport and I soon learned that it isn't quite as scary as some people think it is to travel through there.

I'm not to worried about DME finding my luggage, more worried about them finding me.....I don't fly much but I've never seen an airline change flight times like airtran. :brick::brick:

As best I recall, most of the AirTran gates are in the same concourse. You theoretically shouldn't have too much trouble getting to your departing gate from your arrival gate. Plus, the bonus is that you shouldn't have to wait too long between flights:animwink:

Don't worry about your baggage! Worry about having a good time (and that will take care of itself ;))!
