DL's obvious speaker playing laughter at the exit of The Haunted Mansion or The Magic Kingdom

It is a weird feeling having riding the MK Version for so many times and then you get to the one at DL and removes the first four scenes (Portrait Hall, Library, Piano Ghost, & MC Escher Stairway) and it jumps right to the Endless hallway...
Conversely, it’s a weird feeling to ride the one at DL so many times and go to WDW where they’ve taken DL’s queue and put it on the ride!

Got a source for this story? I'd be interested in learning more. Is there a Long Forgotten blog post on it?

Seems strange that they'd not notice that a speaker is disconnected. Do we know when the ride audio switched from analog to digital?

I remember hearing about it way back in the day. Surprisingly not a ton online about it, but I did find this from Disney historian Sam Gennawey who is among the most reliable sources out there: https://blog.touringplans.com/2012/02/29/disneyland-haunted-mansion-last-laugh/

I'm sorry, but that article is incredibly poorly written. It focuses more on Claude and Marc, with a brief paragraph at the end saying that it got plugged back in revealing the lost laugh. He even states that he doesn't even know if Marc or Davis was even responsible for this "lost effect".

It doesn't mention at all when the laugh was disconnected, how it was missed by maintenance, employees, and fans who were familiar with the ride and who's jobs were to make sure the sound for the attraction works. It doesn't talk about why the laugh is or isn't at other mansions.

If that's the best article on this effect, I'm gonna need more since far worse fallacies have been perpetuated by far more reliable sources. The Haunted Mansion is a cesspool of myths, legends, and artificial trivia that plagues the fan communities. So much misinformation has been perpetuated for decades that I'm incredibly skeptical of stuff like this and its history.

You don't have to believe it. I'm telling you I remember when it was discovered over a decade ago (maybe two?) and was initially reported on, and this is the only mention of it I can find online to back it up. Sam wouldn't publish if it weren't true, but if you don't buy the story, it's no skin off my back either way.

26 posts and I can't believe no one has posted a picture yet of the "obvious speaker" which plays the laughter.

So who is going to post it....

You're telling me that the myth surrounding that speaker is that it was disconnected for years, until someone realized it wasn't playing and decided to plug it back in revealing a lost effect that had been accidentally forgotten?

Yeesh. That speaker isn't even hidden. Don't they do audio checks where they go through and listen to each speaker? What about the refurbs every year and the maintenance crews that work on it at night?

I don't doubt that it had been turned off then brought back years later, but the romanticized story that's been perpetuated seems like a loose interpretation of events.

Seems more like someone trying to claim that ironically my most hated thing AKA Haunted Mansion Holiday is somehow responsible for the most charming feature of HM being turned back on. I don't buy it either, but it makes no difference. There's no redeeming that neon puppet nightmare, which resulted in more things being removed.

It was heartbreaking when I began learning more about the Mansion and some of the stuff that was lost for HMH. Such a shame.

I still mourn the loss of the shroud. Some say, if you close your eyes and listen carefully, you can still hear it shrouding.
