DLR 3rd gate possibilities

Discoveryland and steampunk should be an extension of Main Street to work. By itself, it seems like an outdated trend. Retro Tomorrowland is another concept that keeps coming up, but basing Tomorrowland on the 1960s Space Program and Googie design is limiting.

I thought the Tomorrowland movie provided a clear well designed Tomorrowland. They really should pursue it despite the movie underperformance.

You're out of your mind and clearly not knowledgable on construction costs when you argue that it would cost $750M to $1B to open the new hotel. Did it ever occur to you that the higher cost per room that Disney was going to pay versus the national average took into account things like union labor and higher cost of construction in California?
You do know this hotel project was more than a hotel with rooms right? It was to include lots of on-site amenities including shops, restaurants, spa, etc. And even rumors of a movie theater to replace AMC. The rooms themselves were suppose to cost a minimum of $200M to meet the 4/5 Diamond requirements.

So once you add in all the on-site amenities and add all the staff it’s not hard to see how the project could potentially get upwards of $750M or more.

I'm well aware of what it was to include. Ground level retail, restaurants, etc. When you talk about hotel construction costs on a per room basis that includes the cost of common area spaces (lobby, restaurant, meeting rooms, pool, retail). Disney was spending twice the average, which accounts for the upgraded and more expansive facility. Just FYI for discussion sake movie theatre construction costs typically are about $750,000 per screen. The property was not going to have a replacement for the AMC Theatres. The Downtown Disney location was always an underpeforming location and AMC was happy to get out of the lease. You don't see anyone jumping to lease the empty, unused facility that still stands.

Disney’s plan had significantly higher costs/per room compared to the other high end hotels being built in the area.

Cost was nowhere near the 750-1 billion range.

I think what several of you are getting stuck on is the "hotel" part of it. Yes the hotel by itself was not going to cost that much. But the entire project which included the hotel and all the stuff I mentioned in my previous post, overhaul of DTD, infrastructure improvements and other things was going to cost much much more then a simple hotel. Once the hotel was cancelled all that other stuff (and the money for it) that was included in the entire project went away too. Hell the Pixal Pals parking structure cost $100 Million on its own. Why is it hard to imagine the entire hotel project would be over $750M.

The cheapest way is one or two new towers for Disneyland Hotel from the former ESPN Zone and former north Downtown Disney parking lot, and a new wing extension for the Grand Californian at former AMC Theater and flat parking lot. No new lobby or new services to worry about. Just put in new rooms. They do need a new hotel parking structure for all the new cars at least.

Because it’s incorrect.
