Ah, it looks like Project Sparkle has arrived at Grizzly River Run!

Anaheim hasn't seen this much refurbishing and painting and sprucing up since before the 50th in '04-'05, and they were already keeping the place looking great the last five years!

And in 2004 the Anaheim parks were at their lowest level with the recent departure of Pressler and Cynthia Harriss, so there was a LOT of work to do back then. This time, it's just painting and polishing and plussing things that were already in good repair. An amazing Golden Age we are living in!

Also read somewhere that Goofy's Sky School will go down for most of April, and all of May. I forget where I saw this but if I find it I'll link it.

And from Al Lutz some info on the current Fantasmic! refurbishment.
http://miceage.micechat.com/mc/mc020812a.htm
What TDA has recently decided is that a special Leap Year Day Fantasmic! will be performed at 1:00AM, and this will be the first showing after this winter’s eight week rehab. This current Fantasmic! rehab is plussing up the lasers and adding more digital projections to the stage, plus tackling plenty of stagecraft maintenance and technical upgrading for the entire show, in addition to a big cosmetic rehab for the Sailing Ship Columbia that is used as Captain Hook’s pirate ship. The rehab timeline for both the show and the Columbia had to be scooted up just a few days to allow enough testing and rehearsal time in late February, but Fantasmic! will now be a key element of the overnight Leap Year party at Disneyland

No updates to the first post but some smaller updates

DCA's Parade route-
Older parade lighting, speakers, and bubble machines seem to be disappearing, I'm still assuming for paint and upgrades(similar to the new ones Hollywood, Buena Vista Street, and Paradise Pier all recently received)

Speaking of speakers(what a pun! lol)
Paradise Pier's lamp posts are now sporting a new color, also note the speaker is currently missing, probably being painted)

Disneyland Railroad Tomorrowland Station
The station is now closed, probably for paint.

Disney Animation
I can't confirm but this coming week Feb 13-15 will be closed.

Rumors of upcoming refurbishments this fall
  • Fantasyland Theater- Late summer 2012
  • Carnation Gardens(renovation to Fantasy Farie)- Late Aug 2012
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad- Late Aug 2012(multi month)
  • Indiana Jones- Fall 2012(2 months)

http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al022112a.htm
There was a timetable that had Alice In Wonderland closing at the end of this summer, but that also may be pushed back due to two other big projects. Once the Matterhorn reopens in mid June, they’ll try to get through this summer without any rehabs planned for Disneyland. But by late August two big attractions will need to close for a long rehab; Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Fantasyland Theater. The rehab at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will last for months and is largely a technical and hardware one, with the old ride control system still based on its 1979 ancestry completely replaced with 21st century technology.

In late summer the Fantasyland “WonderBra” Theater will also be closed as WDI moves in to remake that space into a more formal set-up with upgraded stage facilities that also mesh better with its Fantasyland surroundings. Late August is also the current timetable for shutting down the Carnation Plaza Gardens area to begin its remake into the newest version of Princess Fantasy Faire. That timing coincides with a similar project out at Walt Disney World, where they’ll be closing their Snow White dark ride to install a smaller and less ambitious version of what Disneyland is getting. But some of the set pieces and interactive technology tricks to be used in the Faire will be shared on both coasts, so it’s a project that is being paired together to shave some costs off both locations.

And with a planned two month rehab for Indiana Jones this fall, plus the usual Holiday overlay rehabs and crazy crowds expected through all of 2012, that Alice In Wonderland rehab just keeps getting bounced all over the calendar.

Grizzly River Run's reopening must have been pushed back again.
The water was back yesterday with the rafts queque'd in the River last night.
Today the water's flowing and the load carousel is turning, but the attraction is still closed with no rafts running currently.
Interestingly, there doesn't seem to be any activity around either unless it's all behind the scenes.
Anywho, looks like it shouldn't be too long before it's operating again.

I'm interested to see what Grizzly River Run looks like when you are on the ride. All of the buildings in and around the ride have received big cosmetic upgrades/rethemes during this rehab as part of Project Sparkle.

Grizzly went from being a run-down mining and timber operation taken over by hipsters in 2001 who were into "extreme sports" that were so fashionable in the late 1990's, to a more themed version of a late 1940's/early 1950's working mining and timber company that could have been seen in one of Walt Disney's True-Life Adventure films circa 1950.

Grizzly River Run when it was run-down and taken over by late 90's hipsters:

Grizzly River Run now that it's set in a working mining and timber operation, circa 1950.

Great comparison shots!
I knew that the golden color of the mill/lift building looked new, but then again, I'm so out of touch with the intricate details at DLR that I questioned myself.
Great to see the results of the refurb and all of the great plus-ing!

It seems some of the Monorail delayed opening info is dated, the most current has it delayed opening through March 10.

Ariel's Grotto the restaurant will have a very short closure, short compared to the Cove Bar.

Grizzly River Run's reopening must have been pushed back again.

I believe it was pushed back a few days, it should have opened today.

And what a difference a new paint color does the all the buildings for Grizzly it looks much better than before.

Fans of the Main Street Arcade are familiar with its Welte Orchestrion – the large self-playing pipe organ that has entertained guests for decades. While the arcade is closed as part of the current Main Street, U.S.A., refurbishments, the Disneyland Electromechanical team is taking the opportunity to perform maintenance on this impressive instrument – which is older than the park itself. But you might be surprised at what is found inside …

The Little Mermaid- Ariel's Undersea Adventure

About The Little Mermaid refurbishment-
http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al040312a.htm
There’s other good news arriving even earlier this spring, as the Little Mermaid ride is now scheduled to close for rehab for the first week of May. John Lasseter has bought off on the plans to rework some of the weak links in the ride (he doesn’t just care about Anaheim’s Pixar rides), and the updated attraction should open by Saturday, May 5th. As we noted before, new hand-drawn animation of Ariel is coming to the projection screens near the beginning and end of the ride, and the computer animation has now been scrapped for the Florida version as well. Additional projection bubble effects are being added in the descent and ascent tunnels, and reworked lighting and additional props are being added to the Under The Sea and Kiss The Girl scenes. And, most noticeably, a new animatronic hairdo will be installed on the swimming Ariel figure in the middle of the ride, erasing her similarity to a Soft-Serve ice cream cone.

Other news

Fireworks are swapping out earlier this year. Magical takes over for the summer a bit eariler this year returning on May 11th. Remember... Dreams Come True has its last showing till fall(assuming we stay on this firework rotation)on May 6th.

Fantasy Faire construction is expected to start on April 30th. The Jump, Jive, Boggie Swing Party no longer appears on the schedule after that date.

Disney Dance Crew has its last performance on April 26th

ElecTRONica ends this Sunday April 15.

The Magic, The Memories and You! romance segment also ends on April 15. The show will still be around with an update for summer. Can't the show just go away.

The Magic, The Memories and You! ...Can't the show just go away.

So, I admit, I have never witnessed the 'regular' "The Magic, The Memories and You" at Disneyland, however, I have seen the Christmas version.
Furthermore, I've witnessed the one displayed on Cinderella Castle both during the Christmas season and otherwise. Of course, the show at WDW is breathtaking and has some incredible effects, mostly due to the sheer size of the castle.
Anyhow, I'm wondering why all the hate for the DL "MM&Y"? Clearly, the scale of the Disneyland Small World facade pales in comparison to Cinderella Castle in WDW, but the concept and effects are impressive from my perspective, which is a non-Disneyland-frequenter. I can imagine that a local AP holder (I am actually an AP holder, but live about 1900mi. away), who frequents the park may not be thoroughly impressed by "MM&Y" on a regular basis, but I would imagine that a non-regular guest may appreciate the show.
Anyhow, nemofinder, I genuinely enjoy and appreciate your regular updates and info, but I'm just not understanding the bad press for MM&Y?!

Visuals absolutely impressive. Having seen both(oddly I frequent WDW even though I hardly post up there ) a few times I'm not the biggest fan. I thought the DL one left when "Let the Memories Begin float" got the boot.

For me personally it's because the projection mapping on the small world facade is getting over used starting with it's first use of them in 2005 for Remember and then the Christmas projection show, and Believe. Then Wintertime Enchantment, Magical, Halloween Screams, and The Magic, The Memories and You! Plus the Small World facade being so flat it's like watching a movie.

I guess what I'm saying is that projection based shows I don't care for, but the projections mixed with a variety of effects fireworks, lights, search lights, lasers, fire, fountains, mist screens, performers, props, whatever else they can think of all work very well together.

Glad you enjoy the updates!!! and glad you post in the DLR section!:)
