Hi all
this will be our VERY FIRST TRIP TO DL
we are more DW people....
so needless to say I am sooooo clueless when it comes to DL and resorts etc.

I am running out the door right now so I don't have too much time to read through the threads so PLEASE forgive me if there is a specific post I should be reading, but my question is;
What off site hotels do you recommend, for a family of 6 the youngest being 7yrs old

side note WE ARE DRIVING DOWN

With little ones, Ho Jo is a great choice. Walking distance to the parks and a great pool complex and water playground.

I second the motion for Howard Johnsons. Easy 5 min. walk to the park and don't forget the free parking.

omgosh thank you so much, i was complaining to my husband about every hotel charging for parking, he said that is the way california is.....i will def. check out the ho jo......i seen it on hotels.com but don't know why I overlooked it...right now we are booked at the best western, but I have time to cancel

We always stay at the Tropicana Inn & Suites. Located directly across from main entrance to the parks. Less than 2 minute walk. We have always had good experiences here.

For a group that large, the Camelot Inn & Suites are nice as well. We've stayed there for our last 4 trips to the better Disney coast.

UGH HO JO IS ALL BOOKED UP WITH SUITES, AND THEY ONLY HAVE 1 ROOM LEFT THAT SLEEPS FIVE AND I HATE LYING :(
THE RATE WAS 181.00 so its still a little more then the best western, but the thing i liked was that it was free parking...

The Best Western Plus Inn and Suites (I might have the name somewhat off) is directly across the street, and was clean and convenient, and they offer a free hot/cold breakfast as the diner next door. We went there last May for our first DL trip, and we'd go back in a heartbeat.

It's not exclusive to California, it's a basic concept of high-demand or urban areas. Book a room at any downtown hotel in Portland or Seattle and you'll be charged $30 to $40 per night to park your car, more if you want valet service. Even in small cities, hotels charge for parking. The Hotel Murano in downtown Tacoma charges $20 per night to self-park your car, valet fees ant tips extra.

That said, the Anaheim Howard Johnson's is great. The Fairfield across the street is also great, and I don't remember there being any charge to park there, but you need to display the permit on your dashboard at all times.
