40,000 Woodys recalled
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE
IS - News) is recalling thousands of dolls sold at its resorts because the toy may pose a choking risk to children, a U.S. safety agency says.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday that the company's parks and resorts segment is voluntarily recalling about 40,000 Woody dolls.
The toys are sold at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Disney's Vero Beach Resort, and Magic of Disney and Flight Fantastic shops located at the Orlando International Airport and Disney's Worldport shop located at Pointe Orlando.
The safety commission said the Woody doll's clothing has buttons that can detach, posing a choking hazard for young children.
"Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has received one report of a child removing a button from the Woody doll," the agency said. "No injuries have been reported."
The recalled doll is a semblance of a character in the animated films "Toy Story" and "Toy Story II" a cowboy named Woody.
The recalled dolls were sold from January 2000 through January 2003 for about $12.
The safety agency urged consumers to take the toys away from children and contact Disney for a refund.
It said the recall does not involve items sold at the Disneyland Resort, through the Disney Store, the Disney Catalog, DisneyStore.com or at other retail outlets. The talking versions of the Woody doll are not part of the recall, the safety commission said.
