Disovery Island

Just doing some aimless Internet surfing over here and I ran across this cool aerial photo of Discovery Island. Weren't they going to turn this into "Myst Island" at one time?

No, Discovery Island isn't open anymore. It's kind of a shame. It wasn't a must do for me, but I always enjoyed taking the boat over and looking at all the animals. Oh well... c'est la vie!

The only animals I see when I take the "mouse runner" boats over are birds. It is fun to slowly go around the island and to get a good look. The next time I'm at Disney, I'll bring a camera with me when I'm up close and personal to the island.

Has anyone ever tried to step foot on Discovery Island since it's closed down? If so, does anyone have any pics of what state the Island is in since its closure?

I was just reading somewhere how the royalties and such to have the MYST island thing were too much to make it realistically happen. Between that and the staffing, etc.
