Disneyworld really lacks in the food quality department

I'll agree with Slappy Magoo: There are good CS and TS you just have to know where to look. The average visitor may not find those places. Just this last trip we found Wolf Gang Express as a good CS. Epcot has many unique places. I have found out the better meals are signature places at the resort.

To me its all relative. I wouldn't eat a fast food hamburger anywhere, they just make me sick, whether it's Burger King, McDonald's or at an amusement park.

But some of the Counter Service at Disney is really high quality. Sunshine Seasons is revolutionary in how they do quick service meals. Furthermore, many of the quick service places around World Showcase are similar to quality as if you ordered from a fancy food truck, and about the same price really. One place that sticks out for quality is Yorkshire Fish and Chips

Overall I like the food, and if you are smart can get a tasty well balanced meal at disney. As for price, well, it's always going to be pricy no matter what, nothing you can do about that.

Look where you live, and look where other people live.

You have easy access to good (and some great) non-chain restaurants (As do I)

Try going to somewhere in the US that is an hour drive from any major city. You are going to find Friendly's, Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse, Appleby's, and TGI Fridays.

For many people WDW provides easy and ready access to decent dining.

And

For those who don't travel on a regular basis, WDW provides a 'safe' selection. While you may not have a mind blowing meal at a WDW restaurant, you are also not going to have a completely horrid one either. I have been in cities where I have not been able to do any research beforehand and just picked a place blind (I still do that in the Times Square area as restaurants there open a close on a daily basis). Sometimes it is great. Other times I am yacking up bad seafood all over a hotel bathroom.

Yeah, I got hit with that when I posted some comments about Teppan Edo.

There have got to be a half dozen Teppan places within 30 minutes of my house. Most of which are head and shoulders about Teppan Edo. Along with dozens of Korean BBQ places, which is not Teppan, but has a hibachi in the middle of the tabe for you to use.

I had said it was just OK, I was not thrilled with it and could get better at home. Many people stated they could not get Teppan dining at home - at all. I guess if you can't get the food at home, then by definition Disney is the best.

Free Dining, and the DDP in general have definitely negatively impacted the dining experience at WDW.

Why should Disney Restaurants provide high level meals. They are giving them away for free.

seriously....

If you like a McDonald's burger over a WDW burger then I'm sorry I just can't take you seriously. :rolleyes:With the exception of the burger I got at ABC Commisary (bland), I've had delicious burgers at the Turf Club Bar and Grill and at the Rose and Crown. :slurp: It's funny because we have so enjoyed most of the food we've gotten in WDW, it's one of the reasons we love to go to Disney and another reason we always get the dining plan. And a family favorite dining place is Casey's Corner. Although it is the only place we've actually had hot dogs in all of WDW. Maybe I should've gotten a clue when I saw your profile name - vanilla, that says it all.[/COLOR]

kind of like WDW trying to sell me a lobster roll... I should just wear a name tag "Hello, I'm Dan... I'm from Boston"

I will agree that Disney World's food isn't great... but go to Disneyland and you will suddenly find it wasn't that bad in comparison.

I'm frankly not sure why you would compare it to a McDonalds... I would think the best comparison would be to Universal's food or the food at Seaworld... after all Disney is an amusement park that happens to sell food, so I don't really go there expecting great food.... My only complaint would be the prices for the food are way too high... like going to a movie theater and having to pay the price of 2 two-liter bottles of coke for a single glass of coke... Disney is a little excessive on the amount of mark up.

I totally echo this. Disney has almost, i say almost gone the way of
everything quick food, nevermind the quality, with a few exceptions that hopefully dont go this route (Narcossiss, Yachtmans & Jiko, never have eaten nor desire to at V&A).

So when we go we expect and hope to eat dinner at somewhere with high quality. We are also from New England, massachusetts. If we want Italian
we head to Carmelinas in Hadley MA instead of chains. We have Northampton at our doorstep, Northampton doesnt even allow Chain restaurants to move in.We do have the best food in New England. I think its because we experience all 4 seasons of agriculture here. Awesome vegetables in the summer, Awesome Fall harvests, etc. All local and at our back doors.

many have said this before... but I'll say it again. Where you are from and what you consider the norm plays a massive role here. We're lucky... we're from New England where we have some of the best food in the country. Our idea of food is outside of chain based America... if I want Italian I have the North End and NOT the Olive Garden. So of course if I have a sit down meal at WDW there is no way I can fully enjoy a meal that is twice the price of home and half the quality

Ever since this free dining fiasco began years back now I have noticed too
the quality has slipped, we go twice a year too so I can strongly attest to this happening,. Quite a few restaurants that were Must do's for us
are a thing of the past due to their quality. We are running out of
good experiences to dine at and I strongly agree its due to the free dining as well..Alot of people disagree with this but there really is no incentive for a high quailty cook to do it anymore when they are pressured to get the food out within minutes so they can push customers out.
This i have noticed too....ALOT of hurry up eating....I constantly feel intimidated to eat quick and leave because they are trying to push you out.

I think that the burgers you get a disney are better than Mcdonalds, but that being said, they too are not very good. As for table service restaurants some have declined while others have stayed strong. Unfortunately like some have said, DDP I believe as well has had an impact on the food quality at some restaurants.
