Thank you all sooo much!!!!!! Soooo helpful!!!! This is a busy little thread!!!:) I am in upstate NY but we have a distiller... So all of our drinking water is distilled... Plus we have well water but I think it's hard whatever that means.... I think maybe I will get that brita thingy for my water bottle, wonder if they fit on those stainless steel water bottles I use??? Not a fan of plastic either... Are britas good at getting chlorine and salt out too???:lookaroun I am kinda a raw vegan, well I am.... and I am neurotic a bit... I know, I know, I am weird and crazy!!!!!!! Now you are all gonna run away from me... But just particular about stuff like that.. Not sure if I wanna drink chlorine... haha

Who has a distiller, you? Wow, talk about added expense.

Hard water just means that it has dissolved minerals in it. It is perfectly safe to drink but it wrecks havoc with your plumbing and make soap not want to lather.

The activated charcoal in a Brita filter will remove chlorine.

Activated charcoal does not remove salt or other minerals

Choloine is not going to hurt you, and neither are mineral salts (in moderation).

A brita or any other Ativated Charcoal filter for that matter, is not going to remove minerals or mineral salts from water.

Tried looking for info about what Brita filters out, here's what I found:

The filter includes activated carbon for creating great-tasting water and an ion exchange resin that reduces mercury, copper, cadmium and zinc that might be found in tap water. It also produces completely desalinated water, so I guess the answer to your question about salt is yes, it does take salt out of water. It doesn't mention chlorine, but that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't remove it, it might.

I'm pretty sure you have to buy one of their bottles to use the filter in it. Since you're in a DVC unit, you could bring a Brita pitcher and use it in the room to refill your bottles.

This is supposed to be another good option for a filtered water bottle, I've never tried it, but I know people who swear by their Bobble:

You can get these at Target for $10

Ah, OK

Ion exchange will remove salt. But don't try running seawater through the filter, you will use up that resin in no time.

Ah a fellow New Englander I believe we are the only one that call water fountains "bubblers."

I always thought the water tasted of sulfar myself, It takes a few days to get used to.

They are called bubblers in Wisconsin too. Not being born and raised here it through me for a loop the first time I heard it. They are still drinking fountains to me. I can't get used to the term bubbler.

I find it funny that people drink bottled water because they think its safer than city water. Water provided by local water authorities has to meet certain health standards before it even makes it past the filtering stage. Bottled water companies do not have to abide by the same filtration standards for their water and thus cut corners in the name of profit. City water may taste funny at times due to minerals from either the wells it was pulled from or the filtering process, but it will always be better for you and safer than bottled water 100% of the time.

I can't believe the amount of people who use bottled water on these boards...there are huge movements here to get people to stop buying bottled water. The waste generated from the bottles is crazy, and there isn't even anything to prove that bottled water is safer/better for you than tap. My family tries to avoid bottled water as much as possible. Dealing with a crappy taste for a couple of days is a small price to pay in exchange for not supporting bottled water companies and wasting all that plastic.

My mother, a long-time WDW fan (has been going since '73, if I remember correctly) swears that the water used to taste better. Anyone know if that's true, or why something like that would change?

Don't wanna carry glass around all day...lol:ROFLOL: We used to have a house on ponte vedra beach and I remember I liked drinking the water, but my fam said not to cause of the chlorine, and we would but plastic gallon jugs.... funny how things change...

bottled water comes from taps. Watch the documentary called Tapped. Not to mention all of the chemicals in the plastic used for water bottles. Remember the BPA mov't for baby bottles? yeah, that's in water bottle plastic, too. Remember Plastic does come from oil.

I use aluminum bottles a lot for when I take water for sports. I like them better than glass or plastic.

Of course aluminum freaks some people out too, so what are you going to do?

Not all plastic does.

You can make it from other stuff too. I used to have a corn based plastic mug I got from a vendor. It was pretty cool, till I dropped it and it split in two.

Easy. Use stainless steel.

As for the plastic bottles, some are safe to use and reuse. Others leach chemicals after a period of time so I would not reuse those. You can tell the difference by the recycling code on the bottle and a little work on google

The majority of aluminum bottles are lined with a coating of plastic. Stainless typically is not.

Does anyone know what type of water system Disney uses for there hotels??:lookaroun We are going to Bay lake Tower... Having a few cases of bottled water sent to us, but I was wondering if we could just refill our bottles with the tap water??? Do you think it is chlorinated, reverse osmosis, distilled??? Anyone know? I called there, but no luck.. Got disconnected the first time, then I was transferred to house keeping.. and she was not a happy camper..lol I know why.. :(CAUSE THIS IS AN ANNOYING QUESTION...lol There are 11 of us so that will be a ton of water, since that is pretty much what we drink exclusively....

You can also ask for a cup of filtered ice water at any cs restaurant that tends to taste better than the water fountains.
