Good Morning Disneyaerians. Welcome aboard the Disney time machine.Please ensure your arms & legs are inside the vehicle at all times.No I'am not going mad.I've often read on these forums of the " Halcyon " years. This is something I've missed out on as I only discovered this Utopia in 2004. But if there was a time to revisit the parks at WDW,then what era would you set the Time Machine for.?Just curious to see what years come up trump.
I'd want to check it out in the 80's. Knowing me, I'd likely slip up and end up in 1880's Florida, in the middle of undeveloped jungle Orlando. If that's the case, I'll leave the Delorean in an abandoned mine.

Definitely during the EPCOT Center days.
Aspirational attractions (Horizons, World of Motion, original Journey, original Living Seas, Spaceship Earth with a good narration and a better script. Wonders of Life. And many of these were *walkons*.
Aspirational dining (no dumbing down the WS restaurants). Getting day of reservations with the WorldKey station.

Well, I was at the MK a few months ago and there was no Space, Splash, or Big Thunder Mountain (they were all closed, at the same time, for various reasons). I even posted a comment about that experience on this message board -

First, I'd like to go back to 1976 to my first visit to the park. Honestly, I didn't take enough pictures or understand the magic yet.
However, I think 1996 through about 2001 or 2002 would be my favorite period. Quality, Customer Service and Disveristy of Merchandise were more than satisfactory for my family and me. Honestly, I don't think now is the best time in the resorts histrory and based on current quality, customer service and ever increasing prices, I have little expectations of things being better in the near future.

late 80's early 90's. it had it all, but with new attractions not being there and have been on them, i would miss them. Cant we take the best from each time and put it all together. i would need a time park hopper.

I would go back to the early 90s. Most likely 1994 because Tower Of Terror would be open,but mainly I would do all the attractions that I somehow missed doing in the 90s and do the ones that are no longer there. Like Horizons,everything in the Land pavillion, Mr.Toad, and the attractions in Tomorrowland at that time. I still have no idea how I missed those back then.

MK: 1992 so I could get the original Snow White, Hall of Presidents, 20K, Mr. Toad, Skyway, Tropical Serenade, but still have Splash Mountain and Spectromagic (plus the Surprise Celebration Parade). Maybe 1995 as a second choice to see AE and Timekeeper, but I'd loose 20K then.
Epcot: 1998 to get Horizons and Journey Into Imagination, but still have SSE '94 and updated American Adventure. Maybe 1991 as a second choice to get Kitchen Kabaret and World of Motion.

1976 to see the bicentennial celebration. October 1971 to see Roy and Lillian at the inaguration would be the best too.
Or 1979. I'd hide in a window of the Emporium and look at my younger self, setting foot in the MK for the very first time, not having the slightest idea what to expect, not expecting very much, being dumbstuck and in an instant madly in love for all eternity.
As to WDW's heyday, I think the very peak of WDW is somewhere 92-94. With old skool WDW standards, much of what exists now had been built by then, and little had been demolished yet.

I'd go back to WWI and find Walt driving the ambulance and slap that first cigarette out of his hand. WDW was his baby and he deserved to see it.
Plus...just think of what would be different, and improved.
Imagine...Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom, EPCOT Progress City with it's own zoo, and a actual working Disney Studios that would continue to make traditional animated shorts while Burbank made the move to CG.

First choice-1978: I've always been a little bit bitter that my parents waited until my little brother was what they considered to be old enough to really appreciate it and make it through a whole day. I on the other hand think 5 year old me would have been at my ideal age for a 1st trip. Sure, it would have been just MK, but at that age...I could have spent several days there- just there- and been golden.
Second choice- 1988: I know we went at some point in 1988...spring break, I think? At this point, I think Norway just opened in the WS and the original Living Seas had been open about 2 years and not quite as crowded. Still- EPCOT at a GREAT time
I think this was also one of my more favorite incarnations of Illuminations.
