The thing that surprises me is all of the bungalows(buildings) on the side are still there.

I thought they would be torn down by now.

When I was there in Oct we took the boat by the bungalows and the boat captain said that the bungalows would re-open.

can anyone confirm this or have heard the same thing?

Nope everything is going

Only thing staying is the tree houses (their protected by the government)

Last I heard the bungalows would stay as they are at least for the time being. I was under the impression anything to be done to them would occur in a second phase.

Coverting the entire Institute area to Vacation CLub would create a huge inventory of available memberships. I would hope that after the past year Disney has learned that over-exposure in any market segment can be very detrimental to the bottom line.

On what basis are the treehouses protected by the government?

How many different places within the U.S. are represented by a resort in WDW???

Saratoga Springs - Saratoga Springs
Port Orleans French Quarter - New Orleans
Port Orleans Riverside (will always be Dixie Landings to me) - The South
Polynesian - Hawaii
Coronado Springs - New Mexico-ish
Boardwalk - Atlantic City
Yacht & Beach Club - (New England/Cape Cod???)

To add to your list--

Old Key West Resort--Florida Keys (specifically, Key West!)

Grand Floridian--early 20th century South Florida/Fla. Gold Coast

Wilderness Lodge--this one may be a bit of a stretch, but I believe it is supposed to be a tribute to the lodges out West, and the replica of the Old Faithful geyser would seem to attach it to Yellowstone Park.

My sources have told me that the whole resort except the tree houses would be torn down. My sources include about 5 vacation club representatives throughout the parks and the security guard (presently) at the old Institute.

I talked to these people on 11/1/02

Reason why I thing my source is creditable-

1. bungalows are at least 25 years old- yes the went through major renovation when the resort turned into Institute but the buildings are still old.

2. tree houses seem to be in well preserved tree – my conclusion is a tree hugging group says that you can not tear down in the tree house area.

Those 2 statements were just my opinions

P.S. I don't know what basis the tree houses are protected. From my own personal info I know their are a lot of perserved areas in Florida.
