Welcome to the boards!

You should try using the search feature. I know we've discussed River Country a lot in the past. I'm sure you could find some useful information there.

Happy reading.

I spoke with a CM who was able to visit the area not so long ago. Lots of stuff was torn out, damaged or rotten. It's not been maintaned. In other words, it's not going to be used for anything anytime soon. When it does, MAJOR overhaul work will need to be done.

i think that disney needs to try everything they know to do to try to open something their, so it wont just be waisted space! (just my opinion)

I know this has probably been said or mentioned before but why did river country close down? I never have been there but it would be nice for it to open up again.

Probably because it was very basic compared to the newer waterparks.

another "tale" (im not sure if this is completly true or not) is that the water had alot of bacteria and other harmful parasites.:)

AFAIK, they don't allow swimming of any kind in the natural WDW water any more

Perhaps this is part of the reason River Country isn't active any more. I mean, it did pull all of its water from Bay Lake instead of using its own water source.

Perhaps it can be re-engineered to use an isolated water source? All of the dirt and stuff would have to be replaced with sand or some kind of soft material. But it would be worth it because it would give Fort Wilderness / Wilderness Lodge one hell of a resort pool to use.

The River Country area is a waste land. There is nothing to use there anymore...everything worthwhile would need to be totally refurbed if they wanted it. They would also have to figure out a water purification system to protect people from the fabulous FL lake water.

An empty WDW property has enough space to fit 17 themed parks. River country is not a waste of space if you are thinking that it is in the way of something.

I do not know who said it was damaged, but I was there last month. I walked all over RC. The front of the park is well maintained and very clean. Ther is a fence up in front of the activity area, but everything is still there. The beach is grown over with weeds, as is the hill with the slide. The structures are in decent shape though. The regular pool looks fine as well, just some run off in the pool.

The place should be refurbed, but it will not. A long tim ago there was a rumor that it would become the main swimming area for FW. I do not think that will happen either because of money.

Due to the additions being made to Typhoon Lagoon, I predict that WDW won't be doing anything to River Country for quite some time now. At least until the initial hype over something new at a water park goes away. Often, Blizzard Beach and even sometimes Typhoon Lagoon top off, so there is a demand for water parks. I imagine they will raise the top off level once the additions to Typhoon Lagoon are made. But as far as River Country goes, I highly doubt they are in a big rush. I would imagine that is in the category of Discovery Island (but I think 20k is a more rushed stage), as in, don't expect anything anytime soon...

It seems like a good idea to have RC as a place to go when TL and BB become full. However, one of the biggest problems that RC had was that it was really difficult to get to. It's not like BB or TL where you can drive to a parking lot and then walk into the park. Nooo.. you had to park far away (in a lot not near any major roads) and wait for a bus to take you there. It was awful. If they ever plan on re-opening it as a park for all guests, they need to come up with a better way to get there.
