  • As many other California municipalities struggle to generate new revenue sources, Anaheim is in the enviable position of having a cash cow in its backyard: the Disneyland Resort.
  • Now, the 63-year-old park is preparing to open its biggest single-themed land expansion ever, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
  • Anaheim is anticipating the $1 billion park expansion will provide a big boost in tourism and hotel taxes, which make up about half of Anaheim's annual general budget.
  • But just over a year ago Disneyland's relationship with its hometown was tense and ultimately led to another project getting canceled.<<
And yes, Anaheim is working on its budget, and is taking in the expected new revenue, though trying to low-ball the expected increases, so folks won't get upset if the increases aren't as big as some hope.

We still need the Angels contract (and expected new construction) and the Ducks expansion, including the Katella Pedestrian overpass bridge to complete the current expansion growth.

The future has another Convention Center Expansion, but to find space is hard to do. Building another parking structure is an option....

We want more Hotels before the 2028 Olympics.

While a few politicians and Unions wanted to demonize Disney to score political points, many of us understand how powerful the Resort/Sports Area economic engine is, and want to make sure it keeps running, and brings benefits for the city, all its residents, and also helps the business partners that make the engine run.

Darkbeer, how's the Angel's situation going along? Lot's of public news in the last week about Long Beach wanting to demo the arena to build the ballpark.

Disney should just build a new tower or wing to either the Grand Californian or Disneyland Hotel. Forget about the new Disney hotel that will never happen.

It is going, a report was given at a recent council meeting. The appraisal is moving along. The Angels have hired Brooke Street to come up with a plan to overhaul the entire Stadium property, expected to be a new stadium, and mixed-use development, and parking structure(s). The rough plan has a deal made by the end of the season.

The city is looking at the recent 55 year deal with the Ducks as a blueprint. The council also will only get reports on a as-needed basis.

It is my opinion, and one shared by others, that Long Beach is a distraction ploy, similar to the Disney Seas proposal in the 1990's. Is it a back-up plan just in case something goes seriously wrong in Anaheim. But the basics of a deal was already casually mentioned during the 2018 elections, and was waiting for Mayor Tait to leave, as he was toxic to the Angels owners.

The new City Manager is on board and will supervise a new team consisting of in house staff along with outside council to represent the city.

This is exactly what sprang to mind the moment I read about the Long Beach option.

Thanks for the great update. Yeah like I’ve been saying before too that I think Long Beach would be in the same situation as they were in the 90s with the whole Port Disney/Westcot battle with both cities. I’m glad the news is promising for them to stay in Anaheim and also getting a new stadium.

If things work out, by 2028, we will have a new Angel Stadium, new Housing and retail/entertainment.

Plus a fully blended are between the Honda Center and Angel Stadium as a pedestrian mall similar to LA Live, just in time for the 2028 Olympics, with the ARTIC Train Station running frequent Metrolink service to all the other venues.

And Rise of the Resistance might even have the kinks worked out!

Oh, too soon?

OK, so maybe Marvel Land might be finished? They might finally build the Eastern Gateway? A new Hotel?

The Eastern Gateway will be done.

A new Disney Hotel. I seriously doubt it on the Resort Property. Maybe in Garden Grove.

Marvel Land, more than likely, and that includes the current Transportation Plaza land.

As for RotR, maybe open, but a totally different ride system ;) With how of things going, maybe AFTER the Olympics....

From the State of the City Speech...

As we continue to see new investment and new development in both The Anaheim Resort and the Platinum Triangle, it is time to take a fresh look at all options to foster connectivity and mobility between these two economic powerhouses. Transportation and mobility connections continue to evolve. It is time we update our thinking and our knowledge on all the options. Los Angeles is exploring a monorail to connect the San Fernando Valley, West Los Angeles and Los Angeles International Airport.

Anaheim knows something about monorails.

Dallas and Dubai are making sure every rooftop is Uber Air ready for autonomous drone pods.

Up the freeway, Elon Musk’s Boring Co. is drilling a rapid-transit test tunnel for fast-moving pods.

And in Orlando, Fla., Disney is testing gondola systems to connect hotels to theme parks. They can carry enough passengers to replace a six-lane roadway. There are so many options.

We don’t need to stick to any one system.

We just know that between our thriving resort and the incredible sports and entertainment district that will come from the investment we expect soon in the Platinum Triangle, we need a connection.<<

I hope i am understanding this correctly. They want to build a entertainment district in front of Honda Center and also next to the New Angel Stadium? That's going to be one huge entertainment district.

What they need is a dedicated bus lane from the platinum triangle to Disneyland resort. They don't need expensive monorail, street car or light rail. The shortcut is Gene Autry Way to Toy Story Lot. It has no traffic. Then let Disney drop them off at the Disneyland entrance. Or they can walk to the Convention Center.
