Hi,

I have heard that Disney's Magical Express MIGHT no longer be free as of 2007. Has anyone heard this and know more information on it? If it's not free, any idea how much it will be because I love this service!

Thanks

Yaz

I know it is "free" now but when i was talking to the CM on the reservations line, she said that in 2007 they might start charging a fee to break even because of the gas prices.

It is and will remain free. By contract if they have to break even, you will see Disney increasing room rates, not charging for DME. The entire DME service has caused countless problems between Disney and the City of Orlando. They are not going to make any external changes to the service.

I made a room only reservation for March 2007 a couple of weeks ago and we received the purple information packet the other day. One of the cards was resort benefits that listed ME and it says that it's complimentary to Disney resort guests. It didn't say that it was through the Happiest Celebration on Earth as it has in the past. It''s also listed as complimentary on the Disney website.

I'm hoping that this is true, but we will soon find out when the packages are released in a few weeks.

It's absolutely true - it has been stated clearly by Disney -- there are other posts on this, back when the DME contract was renewed with MCO airport that had the exact press releases. A search will bring them up.

Free to you

DME is apparently free to resort guests but is figured into each resorts operational costs. Some resorts paid more than others. For example GF pays on the high end. As such they require DME to deliver GF guests first on their drop off run and pick up last on their airport run. That gives a GF guest more time on property.

Officially...

Disney's Magical Express will remain a complimentary service indefinitely. Our current contract with the Orlando International Airport has been extended until 2011.

Does anyone know what the dropoff priority is? I'd like to see a list.

Thanks!

I dont know if that would be true actually,. I Am thinking of the last few times that I have used DME. Most specifically in my May trip, I was staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Prior to dropping me off, the DME bus I was on went to one of the All Stars and Coronado Springs first. I am not sure of the payment breakdown but if the Deluxe resorts have to pay more wouldnt the AKL been dropped off before a Moderate or a Value?? Hey JP Any thoughts or official statements on this? I was thinking the same. My understanding is the routes are based on efficiency. I think it's based on average traffic flows over time and geared to filling a bus as quickly as possible and delivering the passengers to their resorts in the most timely fashion while allowing the bus to make a return pick-up immediately afterwards. I doubt the individual resorts are "charged" a fee specifically. Disney Resorts is one company, the costs are probably factored in on a global level and recovered from general revenues. The level of accounting to distinguish specific charges to specific Resorts would be significant, only to prioritize drop-offs? I don't think so.

To the best of my knowledge all resorts allocate the same amount to Magic In Motion for each form of transportation (one set price for monorails, one set price for motorcoaches, one set price for DME, etc.) regardless of the resort type.

Actually, per the SOPs, the drop off/pick up order is up to the Mears driver, and may never be the same way twice. Normally however, the motorcoach will travel the most direct routes, so the Driver will normally not pass a Resort on his route to visit another first.

Besides, this way it gives your family something to discuss on the way! (:p :p are we there yet? :p :p are we there yet?)

Thanks JP!!! As always the best information!!! I didnt think it was based on a payment plan type of thing. The most direct route does seem to make sense. Belle

Glad to hear for sure that will be no charge for DME. Whether it's calculated into the cost of my stay or not, it's not additional money that I have to put out for transportation at the airport.
